Job Description:
The Payroll Specialist will be located at the company's Harlem River Yard - NYC headquarters, reporting to the Manager, Payroll. The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for performing a wide variety of payroll functions which include payroll processing and internal customer support.
Responsibilities:

• Facilitate the weekly payroll processing and transmission for over 3,200 employees.
• Run high volume on- and off-cycle payroll.
• Review, calculate and process payroll adjustments including new hires, terminations and pay rate changes.
• Processing wage garnishments and levies.
• Update payroll profiles accurately, incorporating changes in union dues, fee deductions, and other relevant adjustments.
• Review all errors in payroll batches to ensure all errors have been appropriately handled.
• Ensure all payroll batches have appropriate back-up documentation and approvals prior to closing and disbursing the batches.
• Generate payroll reports as needed for management and accounting purposes. Prepare and submit payroll-related reports to government agencies as required.
• Handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
• Research and resolve payroll issues in a timely manner.
• Maintain comprehensive payroll records.
• Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
• Run and submit weekly reports to third party benefit vendors.
• Support with various payroll data audits.
• Provide exceptional client experience through strong customer service in response to inquiries from employees, business partners and outside vendors related to payroll inquiries, payroll mobile app, Wisely card and tax related forms.

Education and Qualifications:

• 2 years experience as a payroll Clerk, Assistant or Specialist.
• Experience using ADP preferred, experience with UKG HCM a plus.
• Experience in union payroll environments a plus.
• Experience with weekly payroll schedule and a large hourly population preferred.
• Proven knowledge of payroll standards and procedures
• Solid understanding payroll tax and employment laws.
• Ability to analyze large amounts of data and compile detailed reports.
• Proven facility in MS Office, excel skills, data entry, and office equipment.
• Must be customer service-oriented with excellent communication skills.
• Capacity to organize and prioritize work and address time sensitive matters.
• Critical thinking skills.
