In 1979, the Rhode Island Blood Center was established by the hospitals in Rhode Island as a private, not for profit agency to collect, test, and distribute blood products. Today, the Rhode Blood Center is a division of New York Blood Center and is among the nation's premium providers of blood products and services and an integral part of the Rhode Island community's health care system. As of December 2018, the Rhode Island Blood Center employs approximately 320 full- and part-time employees. Responsibilities

This position is located in Middletown, CT 

Key Responsibilities:

• Demonstrate proficiency and competency in all aspects of medical history, venipuncture and handling donor reactions, remaining constantly aware of donor/patient safety.• Provide education to donors by demonstrating knowledge of collection process as well as functions of other departments in order to recruit donors/participants such as platelet/RBC apheresis, National Bone Marrow Donor Program.• Demonstrate proficiency in maintaining a two-bed set up.• Twelve month average venipuncture success rate of 94% or above.• Twelve month average errors within department thresholds.• Observe all safety/OSHA policies and FDA and AABB guidelines & regulations.• Maintain professional conduct when representing the Rhode Island Blood Center and donor/patient confidentiality.• Adhere to all SOPs associated with the collection process including arm prep, labeling, mixing, accurate completion of DRR.

• Demonstrate knowledge of and accurately complete specific paperwork associated with directed, autologous & therapeutic donors.• Provide excellent customer service by acknowledging the donor, treating donors in a respectful manner, and striving to provide each donor with a positive and pleasant experience which would encourage his/her return.• Demonstrate willingness to effectively resolve conflict utilizing interpersonal communication skills and Supervisor input.• Foster team work and the ability to work well with different personality types and cultures. Be respectful to all staff, adaptable to different working surroundings, flexible and dependable, as well as able to meet irregular working hours, including weekends.• Perform all aspects of whole blood collection as required.

Qualifications

Educational Requirements: Minimum of a HS diploma or equivalent.

Must be able to fluently speak, read, write, and comprehend English.

Part time work schedules of 20 hours per week. This position will be located at our donor center in Middletown, CT.
