Retina Specialty Institute is Hiring a Billing Specialist Near Pensacola, FL

Title: Billing Specialist

Department: Revenue Cycle Management

Reports To: RCM Manager

FLSA: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

General Purpose of Job/Summary:

The Billing Specialist is responsible for ensuring that billing information is accurate and complete and will create invoices and check calculations on billing statements so there are no errors in payment procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Primary contact on the billing que-921
  • Reviews accounts and answers patient’s questions regarding billing discrepancies
  • When applicable, updates or changes insurance on the account then submits a corrected claim
  • Prompt to collect payment on every call
  • Process and post credit card payments
  • Return voicemails within 24 hours of receiving
  • Primary contact for Care Credit (will need to forward receipt to proper personnel to post payment in Athena)
  • Responsible for billing emails from staff- will review and reply to the front desk, and reach out to the patient, within 24 hours of findings
  • Clinics you oversee billing for: Dr. Gupta, Dr. Myers, Dr. Tarantola, and Dr. Peters
  • Patient credit report- - audit patient’s account to validate if there is a true patient credit or not. (The spreadsheet is sent to FD each day indicating whether a copay should be collected from the patient) is the parentheses statement necessary?
  • Patient Balance Report – audit patient’s account to validate if there is a true balance or not. (The spreadsheet is sent to FD each day) is the parentheses statement necessary?
  • Dr. Tarantola Report – The J code report is sent each Friday for the following week, indicating each patient with J code insurance or patient balance.
  • Unpostable Patient Correspondence is reviewed/completed on a weekly basis
  • Unpostable Patient Statement Review is reviewed/completed on a weekly basis
  • WC/Voc Rehab/DBS//Auto spreadsheet – contact payers and continue to add notes to claims with follow up information, weekly
  • Assist with any issue brought by Auth Team, Copay Assistance, Chart Work Up, Call Center, and Medical Records
  • Appeals when needed
  • Create cases in Athena when issues arise
  • Denials for local rule 2804- review on a weekly basis, fax or upload medical records, and place claims in CIP hold after records are sent.
  • Assist Kea when denials/projects are sent for review
  • Backup to Kristina Buffkin when out of office

Education/Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate degree or higher preferred
  • Previous medical clinic experience (or equivalent) preferred

Technical Skills:

  • Strong computer skills: Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel preferred
  • Strong clerical skills: typing, filing, and record keeping

Other Skills/Requirements:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) required
  • Ability to adapt to multiple and rapidly changing priorities and deadlines
  • Work well under pressure and maintain a sense of urgency
  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Keep supervisor and coworkers informed of the status of issues and projects
