Overview

SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE: The Maintenance Technician position is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety. This position is responsible for start-up of equipment, preventive maintenance, equipment change-overs, equipment/building repairs, basic/routine facility maintenance while following all safety measures.

This position will support Monday-Thursday on 2nd shift, 2:00pm-12:30am.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Perform highly diversified duties to install and maintain production machines and the plant facility’s equipment.
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during operation and schedule equipment repairs/preventive maintenance service. Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments to back in safe working order.
  • Perform regular basic preventive maintenance of equipment and facilities to detect faulty operations or equipment.
  • Perform simple machinist duties and set-up machinery/equipment according to specifications and/or directions.
  • Perform mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, plumbing, calibrations, troubleshooting and repair of production equipment
  • Perform hazardous waste management throughout facility.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals, drawings, work orders to perform service while keeping logs.
  • Assemble new or modified components, assemblies, and systems.
  • Oversee projects, repairs or service done by outside vendors/contractors.
  • Comply with safety regulations.
  • Consult with Engineering Staff on projects, and aid as required
  • Maintains safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of all equipment and maintaining compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with other employees.
  • Assume responsibility for work accomplished on schedule
  • Advise Supervisor/Manager of any problems
  • Document and report downtime due to failures of machines and equipment to apprise production personnel of production delays
  • Answer questions, instruct and demonstrate techniques on matters directly related to:
    • Work Instructions
    • Good Manufacturing Practices
    • Safety
    • Machine operations
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor/Manager/Maintenance Planner.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent completion of a craft apprenticeship required.
  • 5-8 years of Intermediate mechanical, boiler, steam generator, electrical, vacuum, compressors, plumbing, building, HVAC system repair or related experience required.
  • Experience in industrial manufacturing with hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical and electronically controlled equipment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of 5S/6S techniques and Lean Manufacturing Skills.
  • Experience with PLC’s, Drives, HMI, Controls with changing or adding parameters.

Language Ability: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Possess ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.

Math Ability: Ability to perform basic math problems, add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Requires ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Needs ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Must be able to follow detailed instructions and directions and provide immediate feedback.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Excel spreadsheet software, Microsoft Word and be able to navigate websites and systems with ease. Type 40-60 WPM.

Specialized Skills: Ability to read and interpret blueprints and Work Instructions.

Certificates and Licenses: Technical training and/or certification required.

  • Regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, vibration, with risk of electrical shock.
  • Regularly exposed to loud noises from equipment or processes.

  • Regularly exposed to hazardous waste and chemicals.
  • Regularly exposed to heights above 10 feet.
  • Occasionally required to work in confined spaces.
