Description

The Building Engineer performs a variety of skilled work including the installation, remodeling, repair, alteration, and maintenance of electrical, heating, ventilating, air conditioning, irrigation, and plumbing systems; carpentry; preparation of surfaces for painting applications, and removal of paints and other wall coverings. A Building Engineer is expected to be able to work without close supervision and be willing to work irregular hours and days including overtime, weekends, holidays, and night shifts.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs walk-through to ensure all equipment, systems and fixtures are working properly, and tours facilities with inspectors.
  • Inspects and maintains air conditioning units.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on equipment, including HVAC, pumps, fans, belts, motor control centers, motors, valves, fan coils, various electrical components, fire sprinkler systems, diesel generators, and other mechanical equipment.
  • Constructs new repairs or alters building structures; and paints and/or stains surfaces.
  • Operates, maintains, and repairs mechanical systems; installs, maintains and repairs motors, controls, pumps and water fountains; performs routine plumbing repairs; and repairs lighting fixtures.
  • Installs electrical systems in making alterations to existing facilities including designing circuits and installing wiring, conduit, controls, and switches. Installs and modifies high voltage circuits including the replacement of lamps, glassware, fixture, sockets, transformers, and cables.
  • Inspects, repairs, replaces, services, and maintains electromechanical, electrical, and electronic systems and associated equipment including conduit and duct systems, light and power circuits, motors, transformers, control equipment, switches, switchboards, light fixtures, and the like. Troubleshoots series and multiple lighting circuits and high voltage circuits.
  • Completes work logs as requested/required.
  • May operate powered industrial trucks and carts.
  • Maintains professional and productive atmosphere.
  • Report to work as scheduled and/or requested.
  • Consistently demonstrate positive, interpersonal relations with all constituencies; cooperate harmoniously with others in the accomplishment of the RSCVA’s strategic goals and objectives.
  • Advises supervisor of materials and supplies needed to complete tasks and projects.
  • Responds to and reports visual irregularities, discrepancies, damage, loss of property and safety concerns to supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications


JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the building trades and/or possess trade school certifications.
  • Knowledgeable in standard practices, materials, methods, equipment, and tools used in the building trades; theory and operation of automatic control equipment; operation of electrical, heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment; occupational hazards and standard safety precautions.
  • Knowledge in the operation, repair, and maintenance procedures related to building trades.
  • Skilled in performing installation, tests, inspection, and repair of building systems
  • Ability to make independent evaluations for effecting repairs and adjustments.
  • Ability to use computer and various software programs, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to review and comprehend work orders, operating manuals, assignment sheets, safety rules, and building and equipment schematics.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both in writing and verbally, with staff, visitors, vendors, and public.
  • Possess excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to become Powered Industrial Truck Certified (forklift, aerial tower, platform and scissor lifts, etc).
  • Ability to multi-task and remain flexible and be able to adjust to situations as they occur.
  • Must possess a valid Nevada Driver’s License.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Regularly required to reach with hands and arms above and below shoulder level.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, bend (at neck and waist), twist, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, push, and pull, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Simple grasping as well as repetitive use of hands and fine hand manipulation are needed to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Frequently required to talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close, color, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS /ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Regularly works near moving mechanical parts.
  • May work in high places and is exposed to various temperatures both inside the building and outside, airborne particles, chemicals, and vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.
