Job Description Summary The Accounting Supervisor is responsible for oversight of key accounting and reporting activities for the hotels. The candidate will supervise a team of accountants in all aspects of day-to-day accounting. This position requires excellent managerial, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. A strong knowledge of office processes and related computer software tools is essential. Job Description Responsibilities Supervise a team of Accountants to effectively perform key accounting activities such as journal entries, accruals, allocations, reconciliations etc. Prepare and review monthly and quarterly financial statements and liaise with hotel personnel to prepare appropriate P&L and BS commentary Supervise general accounting and financial reporting in support of the assigned hotel portfolio Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies, and principles Supervise the month-end close calendar and ensure the accuracy and timeliness of the required close activities Ensure financial statements and reports are prepared accurately and in a timely manner Ensure internal controls and procedures are in place to facilitate the accuracy of the financial statements and promote operational efficiency Partner with Internal Audit to support annual testing and audit activities and develop remediation plans for any control weaknesses identified Review revenue journals and confirm daily income posting is reflected in financial systems software for assigned accounting team. Confirm that a monthly trial balance from financial systems software, and reconcile the guest ledgers, with account balance detail reports within Opera (PMS) for assigned accounting team. Ensure that all activities of the department are in accordance with GAAP and that the accounting records are maintained accurately and in compliance with laws and regulations Provide technical and social support to the team while developing each staff member to their full potential and efficiency Regularly evaluate each employee and provide feedback to the Director, General Accounting Support other functions within the Shared Services Center as needed Ensure that annual budgets and monthly forecasts are timely by partnering with onsite operational team and FSSC staff to ensure that all required tasks are completed and reviewed within the provided guidelines Key Competencies Required Technical: Demonstrated familiarity with advanced accounting policies and procedures Significant experience assisting with/managing audits Advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Familiarity with related areas of tax compliance Strong understanding of financial reporting Behavioral (Leadership) Experience managing junior resources Ability to manage performance within a team Able to motivate individuals in a positive way to perform to the best of their ability Comfortable managing the administrative aspect of leadership along with daily work activities Behavioral (Do the Right Thing) Treat each other with respect Commit to the team Be authentic and real Communicate openly, honestly, and clearly Behavioral (Go Beyond) Exceed expectations Hold yourself and others accountable Continuously improve Dig deeper and find ways to succeed Additional Job Description Qualifications and Skills A candidate for this position must possess the following applicable knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to demonstrate and provide applicable examples to support his/her competency. Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience (hospitality industry preferred), with minimum 2 years recently managing more than 3 or more team members Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Accounting related field preferred Strong understanding of GAAP USALI 11th Edition Experience a plus Must be PC proficient and able to thrive in a fast pace setting Demonstrate ability to use technology to improve processes and efficiencies Ability to proactively communicate and work effectively with hotel staff, corporate management, and internal customers Ability to think outside the box and challenge the status quo Attention to detail, problem solving and trouble shooting skills are essential Excellent oral and written communication Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines required Must thrive in a teamwork setting and have excellent organizational skills Passionate and enthusiastic Additional Job Description Benefits Sonesta recognizes that benefits play a vital role in helping ensure the health and financial security of employees and their families.
