POSITION PURPOSE: This position is responsible for a variety of engineering duties, including continuous improvement of current production processes, troubleshooting any of the REG plants; assist in the design of new plants and upgrades, management of small to medium size capital projects and evaluation of new technologies. This position is also expected to work within the Process Safety Management system including MOC, PSSR, P&ID, PSI, ISO and Mechanical Integrity programs. This position will be a technical expert in the process chemistry and production processes all of the REG plants. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Operating Procedures Monitor performance of plant and coordinate with operations to correct any deviation from desired performance Analyze output, operating costs, and process costs for various plant configurations to support feasibility and screening studies Participate in REG’s Management of Change program, including Pre-startup Safety Reviews. Produce process design packages including utility summaries, equipment and instrument data sheets, PFDs, Isomemetric’s and P&IDs for commercial applications Review engineering designs by outside contractors for conformance to specifications and technology Prepare presentation materials and make presentations on design elements of the process Design plant modifications to existing facilities and complete management of change (MOC) forms to initiate installation Conduct reviews in response to engineering questions relating to the process technology Assist in the creation operating procedures Monitor performance of plant and coordinate with operations to correct any deviation from desired performance Create and update operating procedures and standards Review Process Safety Information for the REG facilities, including Pressure Relief Valves and Interlock Systems. Support Function Conduct analyses to identify potential opportunities for improving operations with upgrades that enhance throughput or efficiency Prepare budget capital cost and justification for use in project planning Provide technical expertise as required in support of Research & Development department Development and Evaluation Functions Review installation of process piping and equipment to ensure all items are installed per the technical drawings Specify equipment and obtain price quotations for new or replacement projects Assist in the development and evaluation of operational manuals as necessary Assist in the development and modifications of PFD’s, P&IDs, and ISO’s.
