Release & Application Support Engineer – Managed Services

The Role 
As a Release & Application Support Engineer, you will work in a collaborative environment where you will play a key role in deploying, configuring, maintaining, supporting, upgrading, and patching software components and cloud services. You will also research and do proof-of-concepts on new technologies to improve our ability to support RedMane’s clients. This support will include both on-premise and cloud environments. We are seeking to engage your inquisitive nature and inclination to learn.
Responsibilities include:
  • Manage the release and deployment of applications to production and test environments using Azure DevOps.
  • Provide technical support for production systems and troubleshoot issues.
  • WebSphere and Middleware technologies.
  • Work closely with development teams to ensure that applications are properly tested and validated before deployment.
  • Maintain and update documentation for production systems and procedures.
  • Collaborate with other teams to manage the lifecycle of software and hardware components.
  • Analyze logs, performance data, and other metrics to identify and resolve issues.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to improve the overall quality and stability of production systems.
  • Implement security controls and ensure that systems are in compliance with security policies and best practices.
  • Provide off-hours support as needed to ensure that systems are available and performing optimally.
  • Monitor and manage software patching schedules to ensure that systems are up-to-date with the latest security and performance fixes.
  • Complete level 2 and level 3 support tickets.
  • Constantly improving skills set and sharing new knowledge with others on the team.
Skills & Role Requirements
  • In-depth knowledge of IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS) and related technologies.
  • Strong experience with WebSphere administration tools, such as the WebSphere Administrative Console and the WebSphere Application Server Deployment Manager.
  • Strong experience with release management tools and systems, such as Jenkins or Microsoft Azure DevOps.
  • Microsoft Azure and their services, including SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS architectures as well as a familiarity with DevOps.
  • Experience designing, configuring, implementing, monitoring, and maintaining cloud environments in Microsoft Azure and/or AWS.
  • Strong understanding of software development and deployment processes.
  • Strong understanding of scripting, including Python, Perl, and Shell.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Deployment and release management tools.
  • Monitoring and performance tuning tools.
  • Operating systems, including Windows, Linux and AIX.
  • Databases, including DB2, Oracle and SQL Server.
  • Assist in technical specifications and other deliverables.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor or Masters degree in computer science or related field is preferred.
  • Middleware production support experience with IBM WebSphere Application Server and MQ monitoring and administration.
  • A foundation of core Java, J2EE, and integration design patterns is desired.
  • Should have a strong background with setup and support startup scripts and Automation.
  • Excellent knowledge of supporting software on AIX and Red Hat Linux.
  • Strong understanding of networking and security concepts.
  • Good interpersonal/communication skills. Work closely with Development, QA and production support team members to align and orchestrate resolutions on open issues/defects.
  • Must have an interest in and willingness to learn diverse technologies.
  • Understanding of computer virtualization, networking fundamentals, scripting and automation.
