Priority is given to candidates who can work in a flexible hybrid model from our office in Austin. In addition, monthly travel may be required to either a project site.
Position Summary
Reporting to Senior Manager of Origination & Structuring, the Analyst will provide power marketing, transaction, and project development support through financial modeling, proposal drafting, research, and project management across a pipeline of projects and wholesale power markets. Strong analytical and quantitative skills, as well as an interest in learning about storage and renewable energy, are necessary. Candidates with demonstrated experience in direct customer development or project management, with strong commercial acumen and an ability to summarize and communicate complex ideas succinctly are preferred for this exciting and challenging professional opportunity.
Responsibilities
- Develop proposals and project level content, provide transactional document and analytical support, complete financial and economic analyses
- Conduct primary and secondary research on energy policies, power economics, energy price forecasts, competitive market pricing and other data by market, especially related to developing and contracting storage projects
- Build models, exhibits and analysis to aid internal project development process and external power marketing activities
- Support O&S and storage team in process of structuring, negotiating and closing project level transactions including Power Purchase Agreements and development asset acquisitions
- Support storage team in optimizing location, sizing, duration, and other parameters and provide technical assistance to regional development teams
- Responsibilities include building and maintaining transaction models for physical power price swaps and financial derivatives
- Assist with the buildout of internal business tools and deal presentations for senior management approval
- Succinctly communicate the economics and key contract terms of potential deal structures to other team members
- Interact with land agents, customers, investors, and other counterparties to support origination and development activities
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Highly proficient in MS Excel, (advanced proficiency), Word, and PowerPoint
- Preferred: proficiency in Python
- Evidence of solid research and technical writing experience preferred
- Strong understanding of economic, business and commercial transaction concepts
- Knowledge of customers and segments in North America utility scale solar market (IOUs, coops, munis, Commercial & Industrial companies, IPPs, government agencies) is a plus
- Familiarity with PPA structures and project or real estate development is a plus
- Understanding of concepts including: basis risk, power markets, hedging, losses, and congestion, preferred
- Highly proficient in MS Excel, (advanced proficiency), Word, and PowerPoint
- Preferred: proficiency in Python

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
- 0-2 years work experience preferably within a transactional energy environment. (Internship experience acceptable)
- Demonstrated interest in a career in energy analysis and deal origination required
- Experience in renewable energy industry and power markets is a plus
- Familiarity with CAISO, ERCOT, PJM, MISO, NYISO, ISONE, or IESO power markets and bilateral market regions is a plus
- Direct interaction with customers and counterparties
- Ability and willingness to travel as required (estimate 20%)
