RDS of Virginia LLC is Hiring an Equipment Operator Near Athens, GA

Job Summary:

The Equipment & Bailer Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and effective operation of equipment at a recycling facility for the purpose of transferring, spreading, covering, baling, loading, unloading, and/or compacting waste or recyclable material.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • LOTO for the machinery being worked on – use this every time you work on or in or around that machinery.
  • Manage inbound flow of materials entering the facility by directing trucks where they need to tip and coordinate safe discharge of material;
  • Perform pre- and post-operation inspection of the equipment to ensure windows, lights and mirrors are clean, and the fuel tank is full;
  • Safely and efficiently operate loader, skid-steer, excavator, fork-lift using proper safety standards;
  • Complete Equipment Inspection Reports and other reports, as necessary; report any necessary repairs to supervisor, as needed;
  • Ability to perform minor maintenance and repairs to loader, excavator, and fork-lift including scheduled preventative maintenance (PM);
  • Operate the Kubota and perform the Baler Operator Position;
  • Ability to learn how to load a truck, operate the forklift, and stack bales properly, where bales should be stacked in the warehouse and how to do so properly;
  • Ability to identify grades of recyclable materials, understand what contaminants make bales of product unacceptable to the final buyer, inspect/ monitor inbound material and remove if possible. Notify plant manager and scale of excess contamination;
  • Ability to cross train for other positions;
  • Ability to perform on the sort line if needed;
  • Clear tip floor as required by location;
  • Perform other additional duties as assigned.

Status: Full-Time (40 hours per week). Monday-Friday. Weekend work may be required (as needed). Hourly. Non-Exempt.

Education and Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED;
  • Five (5) years recent related experience in heavy equipment operation (preferred); experience operating a wide variety of heavy equipment;
  • One year of prior experience working at sites regulated by OSHA.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to successfully pass a drug/alcohol screen, and physical ability test;
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and tolerate exposure to typical noises and smells associated with the plant operations;
  • Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the entire body. This will include climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, carrying, and stooping;
  • Prolonged periods standing and walking;
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at times.
