Overview

This is a full time, benefits eligible position. The candidate should have a knowledge of: Basic practices and methods in the repair of buildings, knowledge of the use of common tools, equipment, and materials used in the carpentry, painting, plumbing and the electrical trades. Having electro-mechanical appliances repair experience for appliances used in homes and other buildings is a plus.

 The positions will typically be working in houses in Tioga County with people with special needs. There will be times this individual may also work in Cortland orTompkins County to provide assistance and/or coverage for team members in those areas. Conducting themselves in an appropriate manner being sensitive to the residence is a priority.

Responsibilities

Determine need for repairs involving a variety of building trades; recognize hazardstypical of the work; use hand tools utilized in a variety of building trades; Work independently to determine time and materials needed to perform a job; make mechanical repairs to equipment and appliances; understand and follow oral and written instructions. Occasionally it may be required to handle emergency calls after hours and weekends.

Must also be able to function in diverse working conditions and with hazards such as chemicals and substances requiring careful use. Ability to handle equipment requiring close attention, and to use protective equipment and devices are a must.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• A minimum of four years of experience in one of the trades, and a working knoweledge of two or more trades
