Quigg Engineering Inc. is Hiring an Environmental Scientist Near St. Louis, MO

Description

QEI is looking to identify a motivated Environmental Scientist with ArcGIS, plant ID, or NEPA skills to join a team of talented staff in our St. Louis, MO office working to deliver projects for our transportation and private clients across the Midwest. Our clients include state departments of transportation, toll authorities, local agencies, utilities, and private developers.

QEI is a growing business with 11 offices in the Midwest and Florida. We are a dynamic, multi-disciplined civil engineering firm providing outstanding services in planning, design, permitting, and construction inspection. 

Job duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform natural resource surveys including wetland delineations and threatened/endangered species habitat studies
  • Develop storm water pollution prevention plans (SWPPP) and conduct erosion and sediment control field inspections; Provide technical recommendations to construction contractors to ensure compliance with EPA and SWPPP requirements
  • Support environmental planning activities, including National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance; Contribute to environmental assessments, categorical exclusions, and mitigation planning
  • Conduct desktop reviews of project plans to identify environmental regulatory and permitting requirements; Interpret and record data, conduct analyses, and compare findings to local, state, and federal environmental regulations to ensure that relevant studies have been completed as required
  • Conduct geospatial analysis and mapping using ArcGIS; Prepare maps and figures for inclusion in technical reports and agency coordination
  • Support Clean Water Act (CWA) compliance activities, including wetland and stream assessments, water quality evaluations, and Section 404 permit applications
  • Coordinate with federal, state, and local environmental resource agencies

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a natural science discipline (environmental, biology, botany, zoology, earth science, geology, geophysics, or equivalent) and 3 plus years of experience (Candidates with less than 3 years of experience are strongly encouraged to apply for QEI’s Junior Environmental Scientist position)
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; Must have strong technical writing skills (Candidates may be asked to provide a writing or report example)
  • Familiarity with wetlands and threatened/endangered species field investigations and associated environmental policy issues
  • Familiarity with environmental permitting such as US Army Corps of Engineers Section 404 or NPDES land disturbance permits is a plus; Experience with Section 7 or Section 106 consultation is also a plus, but not required
  • Familiarity with Midwest region plant identification, particularly wetland species, is highly desired; Basic understanding of soils, geomorphology, or hydrology is a plus 
  • ArcGIS experience is preferred
  • Good work ethic and a desire to learn, with a genuine interest in career development within a growing environmental team
