This position will serve as an in-house technical expert in a majority of the organization’s systems and technical platforms including all local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) connections, storage area networks (SAN), corporate servers, and associated software - ensuring a high level of reliability, performance, and availability & providing expertise and guidance in administration, maintenance, and technical support for the users of the company’s environment.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain applications required to manage and support the network, servers and user devises, data storage and backups, and batch process scheduling functions
    • Configure and administer a TCP/IP network to include routers, switches, firewalls, and VPN concentrators
    • Implement and maintain the LAN, WAN, and server infrastructures (Windows & Linux) according to the information security guidelines, policies, and procedures
    • Back up low-level SQL Server administration functions
  • Resolve server connection issues experienced by staff, including software connections to servers
    • Develop and maintain scripts and programs that automate routine tasks and troubleshooting
    • Perform analysis, fact-finding, and consultation with others to identify and resolve production support issues
  • Assist with the preparation of architectural plans and estimates for technology projects, with an emphasis on maintaining and improving the company’s network and infrastructure
    • Develop detailed technical assessment reports for proposed solutions, including research and evaluation of alternative solutions, and recommending the most efficient and cost-effective solutions
    • Evaluate and recommend PC and information system security products
    • Assist in deployment of new technologies and training technical support staff on new functionality that is incorporated into existing applications
  • Assist leadership with the development of system standards, short- and long-term goals, project management, and strategic direction
    • Create, update, and manage policies & procedures for network infrastructure configuration and support
  • Support organizational projects - consulting with users across the business and within project teams, demonstrating a high level of understanding on the organization’s business requirements and technical capabilities
    • Develop required project documentation, communicate resource needs, identify tasks and determine how to best achieve required results, monitor and communicate project status and progress on assigned project tasks
  • Participate in shared department on-call rotation for as-needed emergency IT issues that may arise.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience in Microsoft Windows desktop and server configuration and administration, including Active Directory and MS Office; OR Associate's degree and 4 years of experience with TCP/IP network administration, including planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing
  • 3 years of experience with MS Exchange configuration and administration
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS SQL server configuration and administration and Linux operating systems administration
  • MCSE, CCNA, or equivalent certification(s) preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to write concise, detailed documentation
  • Knowledge of ITIL framework
  • Meticulous, accountable, helpful, conscientious, and prompt
  • Flexibility to work outside of business hours, as needed (regular hours and schedule will be adjusted to account for after-hours work)
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, work independently, under pressure, and be adaptable to change
  • Must be inquisitive and seek out answers without being asked
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and work with multiple vendors, managed service providers; must be able to balance working effectively on a team, within a consultative capacity, and independently

This position can work 100% remotely or from one of our offices in Madison, WI or Onalaska, WI in a hybrid or full-time on-site arrangement, if preferred. Hardware and equipment will be provided by the company, but candidates must have access to high-speed, non-satellite Internet to successfully work from home.
