Job Summary: This position is responsible for the oversight of the production of fiber optic designs and modifications by studying project objectives, researching and developing fiber optic engineering techniques and approaches, validating designs, and supporting project implementation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
·Supervise designers and assist with quality control of suggested fiber optic telecommunication routes to maximize the efficiency of the network while taking into account material, make ready, and method of placement cost to maximize efficient and effective utilization of fiber networks
·Assist design team with planning, review, and questions surrounding existing fiber routes with proposed routes to ensure that estimated traffic and demand would be achievable for both current and proposed routes
·Supervise the drafting of new and revised aerial and underground proposed fiber plant facilities based on the field and design information provided
·Supervise the quality control of detailed drawings where required of multiple dwelling unit (MDU) schematics, trenching details, road and bridge crossings, and design schematics
·Review customer permitting requirements, submittals, and deadlines with design team
·Guide designers to utilize best practices for network optimization of planned facilities along with planning to meet future demand
·Assist with the quality control of drafting from employees and contractors
·Establish and maintain effective communication and professional working relationships with both internal and external customers to collaborate on and troubleshoot open issues
·Assist with the planning and scheduling of projects with internal engineers and drafters to maximize efficiencies, and meet deadlines and project commitments
·Other duties as assigned
Supervisory Job Duties:
·Carries out supervisory duties in accordance with the Company’s objectives, policies, and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to; planning, assigning, and directing work, interviewing, hiring, training, evaluating performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing employee concerns, and partnering with local management and Human Resources to resolve escalated employee matters.
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.
Education:
·High school diploma, general education degree (G.E.D.), or related trade school education
Experience:
·Three to five years’ drafting experience
·Advanced understanding of fiber design standards and requirements
·Ability to read and interpret utility engineering drawings and plans
·Knowledge of fiber network design
·Interactive Computer Graphics System (ICGS) experience a plus
Technical Skills:
·Computer and Microsoft Office proficiency
Ability to read and interpret design prints
Advanced computer-aided design (CAD) skills
Soft Skills:
·Highly organized and detail orientated
·Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines
·Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
·Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams
·Ability to think analytically, apply sound judgment, and solve problems
·Ability to lead, teach, train, and motivate staff
Physical Requirements:
·Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing
·Must have a valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets Company requirements
·Sitting at a desk for 6-8 hours a day
·Working on a computer for 6-8 hours a day
May be required to work long and unpredictable hours
