General Summary:

The GPU team is looking to hire a Senior Engineer to join the team. As a GPU Software Developer, you are responsible for working with a team on developing & optimizing best in class GPU drivers like OpenGL ES/Vulkan/DX11/DX12/OpenCL APIs and for GPU Machine learning acceleration. This position requires significant collaboration with hardware designers to understand, improve, and document hardware/software interfaces.

The Ideal Candidate will have:

  • Strong programming skills in C/C
  • Strong in data structures and algorithms
  • Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills with the ability to work independently
  • Highly motivated, excellent team spirit, product and customer oriented
  • Preferred programming experience with OpenGL ES/Vulkan/DX11/DX12/OpenCL APIs
  • Game Development or rendering technique experience is preferred
  • Device driver development is preferred
  • Real-time operating systems is preferred
  • ARM architecture is preferred
  • Perforce or other SCM tools is preferred

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 2 years of Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related work experience.

OR

Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 1 year of Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related work experience.

OR

PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science or related field.
  • 3 years of experience with one or more programming language suitable for graphics (e.g., C , C).
  • 2 years of relevant GPU experience (either external or internal to Qualcomm).
  • 1 year of work experience in a role requiring interaction with senior leadership (e.g., Director level and above).

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Writes code for features, drivers, and APIs using different languages (e.g., C , perl, java, python) and understands how code will perform on platforms.
  • Contributes to the development of high-quality designs for moderately-sized features that meet design requirements.
  • Suggests programs and runs pre- and post-silicon tests and simulations for components using tools and methods in different environments (e.g., virtual, physical) to verify performance and identify issues.
  • Identifies deficiencies in designs and works with team members to develop solutions to improve designs.
  • Debugs issues (e.g., rendered images, hangs, performance) and design experiments to prove or disprove theories, determine the source, and develop solutions.
  • Maintains understanding of how one's technical domain integrates with the broader framework.
  • Consults with internal partners and some external stakeholders to ensure alignment with their needs and goals for implementation and customization.
  • Generates detailed technical documentation and feature descriptions to guide users and/or customers to use or implement software.

Level of Responsibility:

  • Working under some supervision.
  • Providing some supervision/guidance to others.
  • Taking responsibility for own work and making decisions with limited impact; impact of decisions is readily apparent; errors made typically only impact timeline (i.e., require additional time to correct).
  • Using verbal and written communication skills to convey information that may be somewhat complex to others who may have limited knowledge of the subject in question; may require basic negotiation and influence, cooperation, tact, and diplomacy, etc.
  • Working within prescribed budget and resources.
  • Completing most tasks with multiple steps which can be performed in various orders; some planning and prioritization must occur to complete the tasks effectively; mistakes may result in some rework.
  • Exercising creativity to draft original documents, imagery, or work products within established guidelines.
  • Using deductive and inductive problem solving; multiple approaches may be taken/necessary to solve the problem; often information is missing or incomplete; intermediate data analysis/interpretation skills may be required.

The responsibilities of this role do not include:

  • Supervising direct reports.
  • Influence over key organizational decisions.
  • Role in strategic planning.

Pay range:

$114,500.00 - $171,500.00

The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Even more importantly, please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm. We also offer a competitive annual discretionary bonus program and opportunity for annual RSU grants (employees on sales-incentive plans are not eligible for our annual bonus).
