Description

PUYALLUP TRIBAL HEALTH AUTHORITY, located in Tacoma Washington, is seeking a full time Collections Specialist.

GENERAL FUNCTION: Assist Puyallup Tribal Member patients with the collection process to resolve issues and prevent future collection actions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Effectively communicate with patients regarding their collection account status of claims to ensure resolution and reconciliation of issues.
  • Request necessary adjustments to referral authorizations to reflect adjudication activities .
  • Respond to patient, external providers, and agency inquiries into the status of claims payment issues within two days of receiving collection notice.
  • Efficiently answers all voice messages before the end of each business day 90% of the time.
  • Work collaboratively across departments with staff in Referral Services, Patient Access, Patient Accounts, etc. to gather information and address PTM patient service issues pertaining to referrals and claims.
  • Maintain and document patient electronic health record for tracking appointments, data information and departmental activities on a daily basis.
  • Effectively communicate to patients the referral and or notification process for claims received missing referrals or notification of services to avoid collection actions.
  • Compile correspondence and respond to patient and/or vendors within a week of Collection resolution.
  • Orders and maintains inventory of office supplies and materials on a monthly basis.
  • Compile research and prepare reports by requested deadline.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in Business, Healthcare or related field. Will substitute a high school diploma and an additional two years’ patient accounts administrative experience in a medical or mental health facility for associates degree requirement.
  • Two years’ administrative experience in a medical or mental health facility.
  • Minimum one year collection experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in use of MS Office products including: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of medical billing and coding.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of health insurance and benefits.
