Job Summary
  • The Trade Compliance Manager has primary day-to-day responsibility for import/export processes for the entire company, while assuring compliance with global trade laws and regulations.

  • This role will be the subject matter expert in understanding and following compliance program requirements (including Purple’s Global Trade Import-Export Manual) and be responsible to partner with all business functions in a manner that achieves the highest standards of global trade compliance and the objectives of the business.
Job Description
Responsibilities:
  • Primary responsibility for worldwide import/export compliance and clearance.
  • Perform product classification of Purple’s technology, hardware, and software by working with technical personnel and suppliers/distributors to acquire product information to support product classifications, including assignment of Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes, Schedule B numbers, and Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCNs).
  • Perform Denied Parties Screening to align with U.S. export and other legal requirements.
  • Update, monitor and summarize shipment reports utilizing various Excel tracking tools.
  • Develop and manage an employee trade compliance training program.
  • Evaluate potential duty preference programs, manage use of such programs, and monitor compliance with requirements.
  • Assist with import valuation issues and oversee Purple’s method of appraisement to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Remain current with and update the company’s Global Trade Import-Export Manual for U.S. Customs compliance issues, regulations relating to international trade, international trends, and implementation of automated systems to comply with those regulations.
  • Respond to any U.S. Customs and Border Protection or international trade authority inquiries.
  • Identify legal risk associated with global trade issues and work with internal and external legal counsel to resolve such issues, including assistance preparing Prior Disclosures, protests, and petitions.
  • Drive the development and implementation of compliance programs for global trade including the creation of in-house training programs for internal stakeholders.
  • Manage a diverse workload of export and import-related projects and tasks and adapt to shifting priorities on a day-to-day basis.
  • Conduct internal compliance assessments and support import and export audit requirements, including developing and managing implementation of corrective measures and providing guidance to Purple’s brokers for import entry corrections.
  • Manage import/export processes and controls.
  • Interface with cross-functional groups to identify and rectify any information/process gaps during the export/import process.
  • Improve processes, drive automation and enhance corporate trade compliance.
  • Participate in projects/support tasks to enable the delivery of assignments and objectives.
  • Provide exceptional customer support and communication throughout the international trade supply chain.
  • Work with the Logistics Coordinator to ensure a complete document packet is received for each shipment, including but not limited to the commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, and IMDG/IATA paperwork.
  • Other duties as assigned within the Supply Chain Operations organization.
Required Skills, Education and Experience:
  • Five years of global logistics and supply chain experience including some experience being primarily responsible for a company’s global trade compliance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain/Operations, or similar discipline, certification as a Certified Customs Specialist (CCS), or other relevant international trade experience. Customs Brokerage License a plus, but not required.
  • Experience working with a freight forwarder or transportation/logistics department, or Customs Brokers. Knowledge and understanding of Incoterms® is a plus.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of import, and export regulations, and U.S. Customs guidelines, including to the ability to identify issues that need to be escalated and resolved.
  • Broad knowledge of import and export classification systems, including the Harmonized Tariff Schedule, Schedule B, and Commerce Control List (ECCNs).
  • Organization and planning skills with ability to drive toward overall business needs by prioritizing multiple competing tasks, and effectively managing time, utilizing available systems and resources effectively within the scope of the work being performed.
  • Relationship building skills to seek out, cultivate, and maintain positive and productive business relationships internally and externally. Ability to work well with others through their optimistic attitude and constructive approach to solving problems or dealing with conflict.
  • Drive and energy in demonstrating initiative and taking personal responsibility to resolve issues proactively without excessive guidance and appropriately utilizing necessary resources to accomplish tasks. Ability to demonstrate an energetic demeanor while dealing with multiple projects or tasks.
  • Strong communication skills that demonstrate the value of continuous information exchange, including ability to actively seek and disseminate information both in person and using technology. Exercise active listening and sharing ideas, opinions, and feedback in a diplomatic and constructive manner. Raising issues and offering potential solutions that consider all relevant factors.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking skills, problem-solving, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Motivated self-starter with strong follow-through.
Salary range: $100,000 - $125,000
Schedule:
  • Full time
  • Monday to Friday
Work Location: Lehi or Grantsville, Utah with the possibility of hybrid scheduling
