As the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager, you will be responsible for the overall leadership of attaining and maintaining a World Class Safety Culture in all PURIS operations and offices at the Turtle Lake location. You will utilize the following leading values: All injuries and incidents are preventable, all incidents are investigated, driven to root cause and acted upon, the Front Line organization is accountable for safety, actions and behaviors cause injuries, “off-the-job” safety is equivalent to “on-the-job” safety, employee and contractor safety are the same, and protection of the environment and the communities we operate in is imperative.

The EHS Manager must also embody the PURIS Core Values: Integrity, Leadership, Openness, Global Vision, Adaptability, and Partnership

Summary of Essential Job Functions

  • Promote Safety leadership (meaning active participation) reinforcement, demonstrated management and commitment to safety practices from the most senior level employees down.
  • Drive location compliance with corporate EHS policies, regulatory requirements, and engage the entire local team in safety leadership.
  • Lead EHS continuous improvement efforts for the location across all EHS Programs, including implementing Corporate EHS Initiatives, as well as specific local EHS advancements. 
  • Organize line management accountability to achieve continuous safety improvement.
  • Assist in the development and education of goals and objectives that will lead the organization to world class safety performance.
  • Implement a behavior-based safety steering team consisting of local management and front-line employees, meeting at minimum monthly.
  • Utilize behavior-based safety concepts to continually strive for 100% safe workdays.
  • Implement and drive a local safety committee comprised of personnel from all levels within the organization ensuring front line employee participation. 
  • Support the Company's efforts to ensure a culture of consistent safe behavior and compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies is realized.
  • Develop systems to ensure effective two-way communications with all employees; (ex. safety committees, safety newsletters, time on the floor). 
  • Implement, coordinate, and lead training program efforts including annual training, new hire training, refresher training, toolbox talks, and authorized level training for specific programs. 
  • Actively Manage location incident investigations process including leading incident investigations, engaging the local team with the incident investigation process, training on incident investigation processes, driving to root cause, corrective action identification and implementation, and the timely closure of all EHS Investigations. 
  • Oversee the safe return to work process and evaluation of restrictions for workers compensation claims through collaboration with the local management team and corporate EHS. 
  • Assist People Operations (HR) to ensure the first report of injury is submitted to insurance for prompt processing.
  • Actively audit the facility for EHS Compliance and participate in EHS Audit related events.
  • Ensure the location achieves established EHS metrics, identify system gaps which prevent achieving metrics, and appropriately implement corrective measures. 
  • Complete on time annual OSHA required reporting & documentation completion / filing
  • Oversee Environmental Permit Management, reporting, and related tasks including but not limited to: Tier II Reporting, TRI Reporting, Hazardous Waste Management, Wastewater/Storm Water Management, Land Management Plan, and Air Emissions.
  • Oversee the location’s compliance with the established Contractor Prequalification Process, assist with contractor training, and assist local team in safe work planning for local projects. 
  • Other projects and duties as needed.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupation Health and Safety Management, Industrial Health and Safety or closely related field. Or greater than 10 Years in similar Manufacturing Industry leading EHS Improvements.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing and leading operational safety, preferably within the food industry with proven ability to deliver results.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation granted by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), or the ability to achieve certification within 24 months.
  • Preferred Minimum OSHA 10 & 30 hour General Industry Certification
  • Experience leading safety in manufacturing facility.
  • Experience managing and Complying with Environmental Programs (Preferably experience managing permits issued by the Wisconsin DNR)

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Demonstrated strong teamwork skills, with the ability to lead, participate and/or work directly with cross-functional teams and/or individuals.
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, for a diverse range of internal and external audiences
  • Able to present to diverse audiences from front line team members to senior management
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and integrate safety into manufacturing activities.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA standards and requirements, both federal and state regulations
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations
  • Extensive knowledge of EH&S management principles
  • Familiarity with the workers' compensation process
  • Knowledge of and skill with Microsoft Office Suite and company computer systems
  • Able to organize time, energy, and resources effectively to achieve goals and manage multiple priorities
  • Able to demonstrate qualities as a self-starter and perform tasks without constant supervision
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English
  • Physically able to climb stairs, ladders, and navigate the facility environment

Additional Requirements:

  • Travel up to 10%
  • Ability to periodically work nights and weekends as needed.
