Summary

 

Overseeing consumer promotion and shopper marketing deliverables across multiple categories and/or retail channels, the Account Director functions as the “face of the agency” providing thought-partnership to client stakeholders. They will provide strategic guidance for clients’ senior-level sales/marketing teams while being their voice during conceptual development, communication design, execution, and analysis of programs. They accept responsibility for “the good and the bad” while leading. They position their teams for success by addressing issues in real-time, ensuring all emerge stronger as result.

 

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Demonstrate product category or retail channel ownership with respective client teams, demonstrating agency thought-partnership
  • Cultivate strong relationships w/clients’ trade, sales, and marketing teams (including 3rd party agencies as required) ensuring cross-functional client comms from program inception to analysis
  • Oversee proposals and program presentations, proposing effective and efficient resources to meet client goals and agency revenue targets
  • Identify new business opportunities within existing clients and extended client base
  • Synchronize/standardize best practices for program execution, budgets, tracking, and post-promotional reporting in accordance with company systems and processes
  • Hiring and development direct reports in accordance with company policies, tools, and resources

 

Cross-Functional Accountability

 

  • Serve as financial relationship owner for cross-agency team departments and/or clients to deliver timely client decisions and approvals
  • Activate assignments and encourage partnership with Planning team members to develop category, channel, customer and competitive brand marketplace insights, identify high value consumer targets, communication strategy, innovation opportunities, promotion program objectives, strategies and tactical recommendations for programs, leveraging key consumer/ shopper insights
  • Engage, mentor and inspire Agency cross-functional team by teaching the fundamentals, empowering proactive thinking, communicating team goals and considering succession planning/hiring needs
  • Other related duties as assigned

 

Qualifications and Skills

 

  • BA/BS (MBA with focus on Marketing and/or Public Relations preferred)
  • At least 8 years of client or agency marketing experience; 4 years in a supervisory capacity (shopper-marketing experience is preferred)
  • Well-versed in all aspects of marketing; branding, audience targeting, key message development, impactful creative delivery, omni-plan development and measurement
  • Proven ability to build solid and trusted relationships
  • Proven track record for organically growing business
  • Proven success working cross-functionally with teams, ensuring positive results
  • Ability to “command a room”: Strong presentation, communication, and negotiation skills
  • Experience analyzing business performance and bringing forward recommendations using (but not limited to) Nielsen, IRI, or proprietary client data to explain brand performance
