Job Description 

The Onshape technical operations team is looking for a manager / developer to lead and manage the Site Reliability team. Onshape is a PTC SaaS business. This manager must be experienced with SaaS site reliability practices as well as being a strong Java developer and mentor. 

Onshape provides a professional, SaaS Computer Aided Design (CAD) and design management service. We are deployed in multiple AWS regions globally and secure the designs of companies large and small. Onshape’s customers range from students and hobbyists to global brands like Trek and Garrett Advancing motion. Onshape is a global, highly distributed, complex service that replaces traditional CAD workstations with a SaaS platform that allows effortless collaboration on the design process. Onshape employees are passionate about providing an amazing customer experience. 

This position reports directly to the VP of Technical Operations. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Lead and manage a small team of server-side Java developers responsible for the availability and scaling of the Onshape service. This includes scheduling, project tracking, mentoring, code reviews, performance reviews, etc.
• Design and implement features in Java that help the scalability and availability of the service. 
• Scale and automate core infrastructure, design for high availability, troubleshoot issues and design solutions. 
• Collaborate with other teams inside Onshape R&D on growing the service. 
• Use technologies like AWS, MongoDB, RabbitMQ, Zookeeper, Kubernetes, Elasticsearch and many more to provide an efficient, reliable service.
• Research, test and implement new technologies. 
• Participate in or lead the incident response process to manage operational events. 

Qualifications 

• Bachelors or higher degree in a technical field such as computer science or computer engineering or equivalent experience. 
• Experience with managing a team of 3 or more software engineers. This includes hiring, performance reviews, project management, and mentoring. 
• A minimum of 5 years of Java development experience on a large codebase. 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
