YOUR ROLE:As the Senior Planner, you will work with the Planning Practice Leader to lead and perform complex planning and design projects and varied assignments within the Infrastructure team. You will be responsible for producing written reports, short-term and long-range plans, studies, policies, presentations, proposal responses, and ordinance recommendations for topics ranging from transportation and economic development to land use and development. You are a technical expert that understands plan reviews, development projects, code analysis, and how to achieve project implementation. In addition, you are passionate about facilitating change, community engagement, equity, and placemaking, and you strive to make a difference daily for your clients.You exercise independent initiative and judgment based on the Planning and Infrastructure business plan, which focuses on driving results, communication, setting priorities, and customer focus. You work well with the internal team, public, stakeholders, decision-makers, private interests, advisory groups, multi-agency/multi-jurisdictional clients, planning commissions, boards of zoning appeals, and legislative bodies. You grow business through presentations and planning for the various phases of projects, using your interpersonal and organization skills to build effective teams, while enhancing the reputation of Progressive AE through thought leadership, design excellence, and representation in the industry as a leader.WHAT YOU WILL DO:Leadership Model positive behaviors, values, mutual respect, collaboration, and ethical standards of the practice. Create and edit contracts for consultant services.Ensure the team achieves project schedules and budgets.ManagementLead project start-up (project number, budget, schedule, team meetings, etc.)Manage complex planning studies, development applications and review consultant proposals.Review and process complex comprehensive plan amendments, re-zonings, annexations, site plans, and plats.Lead project teams, assign duties to other team members, and monitor overall project progress.Complete projects within the developed project scope and available resources.Monitor the project and alert the project team members when changes occur in the scope or schedule.Review documents for compliance with Progressive AE and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ) standards.Prepare project history information and close projects.Staff DevelopmentMentor and support the work of (less experienced) staff. Provide input to the Team Leader and Practice Leaders regarding hiring and dismissal needs per Progressive AE standards and policies.Provide technical support to other team members, as required. Provide feedback to project team members and participate in feedback discussions and reviews as applicable.Attract and retain talent within Infrastructure, Planning, and across Progressive AEProject QualityOrganize and oversee team members in all project phases.Maintain multiple project assignments and work with multiple landscape architects, planners, and project engineers. Provide professional planning assistance and comprehensive reports to member communities on varied land use projects.Lead the development of design, graphic presentations, and 3D renderings. Use design software/technology, including SketchUp, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, and other emerging technologies for presentation and production purposes.Organize, participate in, and lead design charrettes.Perform site analysis including assessment of existing conditions, and conduct preliminary studies of the site, including contours, soil, ecology, buildings, and road. Conduct research and prepare statistical reports on land use, physical, social, and economic issues.Support communication and coordination with all disciplines, consultants, vendors, and contractors to ensure adherence to the contract documents and provide support, as necessary.Schedule and conduct meetings with advisory board and elected officials. In lieu of a related degree, 8 additional years of planning experience is required.Master’s degree in planning or a related field preferred.Your Licensure: AICP certification (or related professional certification, such as AIA) orIf no current AICP or related professional certification, ability and willingness to obtain within 18 months is required.CSI-CDT preferred (or willingness to complete within 1 year). Your Knowledge and Experience: Minimum 8 years of planning or related professional experience.Strong knowledge of state planning laws, municipal zoning ordinance administration, environmental laws, entitlements, site planning, sustainability, and other trends in the design/construction industry.Strong ability to produce and develop excellent design concepts and content.Strong experience with quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) processes.Strong knowledge of applicable codes and ability to assist in conducting research for requirements that may need to be incorporated into technical documents.Strong experience coordinating and integrating work with architects, designers, engineers, construction administrators, consultants, developers, authorities having jurisdiction, and other members of a project team. Ability to oversee and work effectively with project team members evidenced by positive project results and outcomes.Strong experience independently prioritizing and managing multiple projects of complex nature while working professionally with internal and external stakeholders. Ability to successfully prioritize work, manage multiple projects, and meet tight deadlines. Ability to drive other less experienced team members to meet the same goals.Excellent track record of thriving in a deadline-driven, client service setting with experienced and less experienced staff, as demonstrated through your competencies.Your Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook requiredExperience in Project, SharePoint, ArcGIS, and Teams preferred.Experience with design software including SketchUp, Revit/AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe InDesign preferred.
