Progressive AE is Hiring a Mechanical Engineer Near Grand Rapids, MI

YOUR ROLE: We are searching for an experienced Mechanical Engineer with an extensive background in generating and translating mechanical systems into final solutions for various project building types as part of a multi-disciplinary project team. In this role, you will provide leadership to a mechanical team for project design and delivery, which includes load analysis, equipment sizing, ductwork sizing, fire protection, plumbing and hydronic systems for various project building types within the established design principles, project budget, and schedule. You will guide and establish the standards for the technical design content of documentation in all phases of the design process, coordinate with other disciplines including consultants, and ensure internal quality assurance through quality control measures. As a leader within the discipline, you will play a critical role in growing our business, advocating for client and team success, and mentoring other mechanical engineers. WHAT YOU WILL DO:Ensure the overall design intent of the project established by the Performance Based Design process is incorporated into the detailed documentation.Provide extensive expertise in the technical aspects of the mechanical design including code compliance, specifications, system integration and constructability.Resolve complex technical issues and provide strategies for meeting aggressive schedules and budgets.Attend interviews for new projects as well as site-visits to resolve issues encountered in the field such as unforeseen conditions, code issues, and interpretation of construction documents.Provide quality assurance/quality control measures for all projects.Mentor, train, and direct the work of less experienced staff.Coordinate the work of the mechanical design team through the schematic design development and construction document phase of a project. Review completed reports, submittals, drawings, estimates and calculations for accuracy.Establish meetings and participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance.Determine and promote the best use of design software/technology, including Revit, AutoCAD, BSD Speclink, Trane Trace, and other emerging technologies, for presentation and production purposes.Collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders to come to creative solutions.Prepare engineering proposals. Provide input on anticipated complexity and hours needed to complete work in order to help general proposals for new work.Monitor budget and schedule. Provide control strategies for project budget overruns.Develop strategies for overseeing and producing contract documents that are efficient and consistent with the scope of work, schedule and fee allotted to complete the work. Foster a personal commitment and hold others accountable to a high level of external and internal client service. Exhibit full comfort and confidence with client representatives regarding your area of expertise to create and maintain a positive relationship of trust. YOUR QUALIFICATIONS:Your Degree: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an EAC/ABET-accredited program or equivalent in education and experience required for professional licensure.Your Licensure:Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) highly preferred.NCEES registration and NSPE membership preferred. CSI-CDT certification preferred (and training provided). LEED AP BD C and WELL AP certification preferred.Your Knowledge and Experience:Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience with a wide variety of project types. This includes experience in the following:Maintaining strong knowledge of mechanical engineering and construction documentation process. Strong experience independently designing and conducting load analysis, equipment sizing, ductwork sizing, gas design, plumbing design and design of hydronic systems for large, complex tasks and assignments, as well as those of a routine nature.Executing the quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) processes.Coordinating and integrating work with architects, designers, engineers, construction administrators, consultants, authorities having jurisdiction, and other members of a project team, as evidenced by positive project results and outcomes.Independently prioritizing and managing multiple projects of complex nature while communicating professionally with internal and external stakeholders to meet deadlines successfully.Mentoring less experienced team members to meet their goals and project expectations.Prior multi-family housing or mixed-used experience, including putting together drawing sets for these project types, is preferred.Experience collaborating with developers is preferred.Experience with creating engineering process standards is preferred.Your Technical Skills:Strong knowledge of Revit and/or AutoCAD required.Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook required. Experience in Project, SharePoint, and Teams preferred.
