Job Description The Department of Studio Arts invites applications for a tenure-stream Assistant Professor with a primary specialization in Painting and Drawing, beginning September 1, 2022. The successful candidates teaching will demonstrate investment and commitment to diversity and inclusion and cultural and social awareness through the arts. The successful candidates research may consider practices that unsettle established paradigms such as analyses of race, identity, indigeneity, colonialism, ableism, environmental issues, migration, genderism, sexism, among others. During the first term of appointment (six semesters), full-time teaching is expected (two semesters, three courses per term, plus Directed Study students, along with service and continued research). Position pending budgetary approval. Work closely with other Painting faculty to coordinate curricular plans and share responsibilities in managing the painting studio and supplies Along with department-wide engagement toward creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community, the Department of Studio Arts is committed to the efforts of the university to become an anti-racist institution. The Department of Studio Arts places a strong emphasis on integrative art-making that relates to all realms of our complex and always changing contemporary world. The department currently offers hands-on courses in Visual Thinking, Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Installation, Printmaking, Digital Photography, Digital Practices, Animation, and Video. Within a city that embraces arts and culture, there are numerous opportunities and resources for unique collaborations within the University and with area institutions and venues.
