What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Nursing Assistant position at PRN Staffers Inc?
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Certified Nursing Assistants, or CNAs, are certified caregivers responsible for helping clients maintain their personal health and hygiene in the client’s place of residence. CNAs also help clients with their activities of daily living, such as dressing or taking a bath. They may assist with planning for doctor’s appointments or other meetings and may be required to organize transportation for their clients.
Other CNA responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Assisting with eating: including – food prep for clients with eating difficulties; monitoring food and liquid intake; following special diets; observing eating behaviors; monitoring eating safety risks such as swallowing and choking.
- Assisting with bathing: including – bed bathing; sponge bathing; tub bathing; showering; perineal care.
- Using bath equipment: including – tub seat; hydraulic tub seat; handheld shower wand.
- Assisting with mouth/oral care: including – brushing permanent teeth; flossing; using rubber pick; removing, cleaning & inserting dentures.
- Assisting/providing grooming: including – brushing; shampooing; styling.
- Assisting with bowel regularity: including – monitoring bowel movements & appearance; following prescribed diets for bowel maintenance; giving suppositories; & giving enemas.
- Assisting with transfers: including – one-person pivot transfer; two-person transfers; using transfer belts; using mechanical lifts; using wheelchair, walker and/or cane.
- Assisting with self-administered medication: including – reminding client to take medication; placing medication within reach of client; providing water for oral medications; opening pill bottles or dispensing medications from blister packs (prepared by pharmacist); medication storage; reassuring client that medication has been taken.
- Assisting/providing basic skin care: including – washing and drying; applying non-prescription body lotions or creams; observing skin changes.
- Assisting with dressing: including – putting on support stockings (which do not require a physician’s prescription).
- Assisting with nail maintenance: including – soaking; trimming.
- Encouraging clients to perform normal body movements, as tolerated.
- Encouraging clients to follow prescribed exercise programs.
- Assistance with urinals, bed pans and/or commodes.
- Providing bowel and bladder incontinence care.
- Assisting with positioning in bed, wheelchairs, and other chairs.
- Assisting with positioning cradles, rolls, and pillows.
- Assisting with transferring back and forth from bed, wheelchair, toilet, and chair.
QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS:
Certified Nursing Assistant must be detail-oriented and be able to carefully follow protocols and rules regarding the patient’s Care Plan and all Agency Policies and Procedures. They should be trustworthy and dependable so the Agency, clients, and their families. A successful CNA candidate will have various prerequisite skills and qualifications including:
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to listen and effectively verbalize ideas.
- A solid understanding of the key principles of home healthcare.
- The ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
- Solid ethics and morals and sound judgement.
- Current and valid Delaware CNA license
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
- Availability to work evenings, holidays, and weekends
- Strong client service skills
EDUCATION and TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
- Current and valid CNA license
- Current Driver’s License or State Id.
- High School Diploma or GED
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Works indoors in client’s homes and outdoors with clients.
