Reports to: Director of Human Resources

FLSA: Exempt

Job Summary

The Human Resources Generalist will assist with the administration of the day-to-day operations of Human Resources functions. Duties include but are not limited to recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, HRIS data entry, e-file document management, employee relations, and payroll.

Job Duties

  • Handle all onboarding of new employees including paperwork, background checks, drug tests, MVR, and credit reports; load data into Paylocity HRIS system when needed, contact managers for start dates, complete employee files as required by State regulations, and provide all required legal notices and disclosures appropriate for the particular department/position.
  • Greet and assist employees and visitors, answer incoming calls, and give support to all functions of the HR office.
  • Serve as the liaison between employees, managers, and the Human Resources Department; partner with departmental managers to identify their HR needs and objectives and collaborate with the HR leadership team to meet those objectives.
  • Administer various human resources plans and procedures for all employees; assist in the development and implementation of human resources policies and procedures; update the employee handbook with legal assistance and ensures that all documents are accessible and posted as required.
  • Lead and coordinate employee new hire onboarding, orientation and related events.
  • Enter, process, and file all paperwork on a daily basis.
  • Run E-Verify as required by law and in the time frame as required; Verify all original IDs for Form I-9; Audit and request new IDs if required prior to expiration date; Use appropriate legal action should an employees work authorization expire.
  • Conduct employee relations counseling when needed
  • Handle investigations and disciplinary issues.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, and state regulations concerning employment.
  • Monitor compliance training requirements to ensure that employees complete assigned training including but not limited to ServeSafe Food Handler and responsible beverage service training.
  • Assist employees and applicants with human resources information and interpretation of company policies, procedures, systems, and processes.
  • Coordinate with restaurant management and the HR Department for all Workers Compensation injury claims.
  • Assure that all required disclosures regarding employees are sent out as required and proof of such is kept on record.
  • May assist with all leaves of absence and FMLA administration, including legal paperwork; Stay up to date on all legal issues regarding the variety of FMLA claims to stay in compliance and offer employees everything to which they are entitled.
  • Follow through with all unemployment claims by checking the FL DOE website weekly and submitting information on all cases; Take part in providing documentation and handle court hearings when necessary.
  • Guide managers in recruiting and employee relations. Hold meetings with employees and managers for disciplinary and other issues.
  • Understand the Employee Handbook and explain details to employees and supervisors as situations arise.
  • Coordinate the sourcing and recruiting activities; execute recruitment plans by aggressively recruiting for well-qualified candidates from a variety of sources; utilize traditionally recruitment techniques such as direct sourcing, cold calling, assist with pre-screening applicants, interviewing and relationship recruiting with organizations and universities.
  • Process semi-monthly payroll for all full time and part time restaurant staff.
  • Perform other duties as required and assist with special projects as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in human resources or a similar field or equivalent education and experience.
  • 3 years minimum in HR Generalist or progressive HR roles required.
  • PHR/SHRM-CP certification or willingness to acquire it within the first year of employment.
  • Knowledge of Federal and Florida employment laws including ERISA, FMLA, ADA, DOL (wage & hour laws).
  • Proficiency with MS Office and information systems is required.
  • Paylocity and Toast POS software experience a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization, individually and in teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict and mediate as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and balance numerous priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Able to coordinate and keep track of multiple activities with impeccable accuracy and detail.
  • The ability to work independently, be highly organized, and know how to prioritize, use discretion when dealing with matters of a confidential nature is critical.
  • Ability to coach and counsel various levels of employees
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good time management and prioritization skills.
  • Self-starter with strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Possess a positive, friendly, outgoing attitude.
  • Some travel required to Fort Lauderdale and Homestead, FL locations.
