The Manufacturing Engineering Technician works as conduit between the Manufacturing Engineering and Maintenance Departments. The primary role of this position it to provide technical troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and proposed solutions and repairs of issues on the manufacturing floor within production equipment. This position also supports the design, implementation, sustaining, and optimization of manufacturing products and processes.

  • Industry knowledge – Knowledge of the manufacturing industry, raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods. Technical aptitude within Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulic, Pneumatic, and CNC Machinery 
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles – Knowledge of Lean tools, 5S, Six Sigma, Value Stream Mapping and Kaizen events.
  • Performance: Safety, Quality, Accuracy, Timeliness, Reliability and Thoroughness of work performed.
  • Professionalism/Communication Skills - The ability to behave professionally with all levels of the organization. Demonstrate high standards and good communication skills with subordinates, colleagues, suppliers, vendors, and others in the organization. 
  • Results Focused - Drive to achieve or exceed targets and goals within determined timeframe and quality expectations.
  • Teamwork- Willingly cooperates and works collaboratively with others towards accomplishing department objectives.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Attend daily production meetings, safety meetings, and other meetings as required
  • Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance Departments
  • Create and update Standard Operating Procedures
  • Identify areas for improvement and create change plans
  • Ensure preventative maintenance program is on track
  • Create summary reports
  • Identify areas where proactive maintenance can be implemented
  • Provide technical support during production trials and product launching
  • Assist with troubleshooting of equipment issues
  • Assist with equipment programming and setup (robotic welding, CNC machinery, etc.) 
  • Design and fabricate tooling and fixtures for manufacturing by collaborating with the Manufacturing Engineering team
  • Monitor manufacturing activities for Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) concerns; report potentially unsafe conditions and safety concerns to EHS Coordinator
  • Continuously maintain a mentality that seeks ever-lasting professional learning and development
  • Perform any task assigned by direct supervisor, regardless of active job roles or reporting department. 

Other Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned

Requirements

Minimum Requirements/Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience. 
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent required, Associates degree or higher in a technical field (science, engineering, etc.) or a Certificate in Maintenance or Mechanical Processing from an accredited technical institution preferred.
  • Ability to establish a responsive and adaptable workplace culture within the organization
  • Ability to drive changes/improvements based on technical evaluations

Preferred Knowledge and Experience for Candidate:

  • Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma
  • Welding Processes
  • 2-D/3-D CAD Programs

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Pay Rate: $28.00 – 38.00/hr. depending on abilities & experience

Work Environment: This position will typically operate in both in an office environment and on the manufacturing floor.

Position Type: Full-time non-exempt level position. This position will typically work standard office hours, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday; however, on occasion, it may be required to work off hours or weekends as necessary for certain tasks and projects to minimize impact to the production schedule. The manufacturing plant operates Monday through Friday 6:00 AM – 11:00 PM. 

Physical Demands: This person must be able to perform normal office duties, sitting for extended periods of time and attending meetings as required. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The vision requirements include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus. 

The position will require frequent walking on the production floor and:

  • Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs. 
  • Must be able to push and pull a maximum force in excess of 50 lbs. 
  • Must be able to work proficiently with hands and wrists and be able to grasp objects 
  • Must be able to stand and walk for up to 12 hours 
  • Must be able to recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools 
  • Must be able to operate machinery and be able to operate foot controls on equipment
