Job Description

Title:

Controls Technician

Description:

Controls Technician responsible for nationwide travel for fabricating, building, and installing Safety Guarding, Electrical, & Industrial Automation systems.

Responsibilities / Duties:

Primary:

  • Mount electronic safety devices as well as field routing and wiring on machine guarding installs at customer locations
  • Includes circuit tracing to required contactors or machine signals, typically without machine schematics
  • Commission and debugging for final approval
  • Update electrical schematics for circuit modifications between PowerSafe and the customer circuits

Secondary:

  • Assist in electrical wiring of new build control panels and equipment in the shop
  • Assist in building automation equipment at PowerSafe Automation
  • New equipment installations and startups

General:

  • Communicate technical information effectively and help manage controls, instrumentation, and electrical portions of projects
  • Provide technical assistance to customers and fellow shop employees in person, over the phone and through email
  • R&D for new product & service installs
  • Other duties assigned by PowerSafe Automation Leadership

Qualifications and Skills:

Required technical skills (minimum of 5 years of experience of the following):

  • Fluent with contactors, PLC’s, VFD’s, process controllers, instruments, and other electrical devices
  • Ability to service and troubleshoot electrical and controls systems including 480V 3ph, 120V, and DC circuits
  • Up to date knowledge of technology including but not limited to electrical, controls and willingness to learn and implement new technology when required
  • Familiar with general industrial codes and requirements including but not limited to electrical and controls/instrumentation
  • Ability to work efficient and safely independently with little or no supervision
  • Ability to identify best practices and recommend solutions for electrical, controls/instrumentation, PLC's, VFD's, Pneumatic, hydraulic etc.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new tasks not limited to electrical and controls
  • Ability to communicate technical support and scheduling well with customers, colleagues, and management in person, over the phone and through email
  • Ability to handle stressful situations, extreme temperatures, loud environments and working on your feet for a prolonged period of time safely
  • Knowledge of general industrial/electrical safety protocols and procedures

Preferred technical skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferable in Electrical Engineering
  • Associates degree or some secondary training in electrical diagnostics

General:

  • Must be flexible to work any shift including weekends, and be willing to travel
  • Must have and be responsible for own hand tools needed for installations of PowerSafe Automation projects
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be organized with good time management skills
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently to meet or exceed sales goals
  • Must be able to help others and be proactive in work plans
  • Legally eligible to work in the US
  • Clean driving record
  • Ability to lift 100 lbs
  • Ability to work in lift equipment at elevations up to 40’

Salary and Benefits:

  • Salary range: $50,000 to $75,000
  • Travel costs covered
  • Daily Per Diem during travel
