The Housing Specialist will provide comprehensive housing services to Positive Impact Health Centers (PIHC) clients who receive housing assistance via the agency’s housing programs. The Housing Specialist’s role includes developing a housing plan to address barriers to stable housing; connecting the client with medical care to address HIV, and coordinating supportive services that help the client reach identified goals and achieve self-sufficiency. 

  • Develop a housing procurement, financial, and self-sufficiency case management plan with clients seeking PIHC housing assistance.
  • Provide short- and long-term culturally/linguistically appropriate services to promote the health, safety, and overall well-being of participants.
  • Assist in the development of and encourage adherence to a personal budget through pro-active housing and budget counseling sessions; provide budget counseling and education to assist clients in establishing payment plans for bills and past debts and to assist clients in obtaining and maintaining their housing.
  • Assist participants in the development of a strength-based/solution-focused individualized housing goal and action plan that promotes self-sufficiency; develop an effective, timely referral network in order to ensure ongoing direction and support as needed.
  • Take initiative in problem-solving and utilize resources, including team members and community resources, to assist in addressing challenges.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work or related human services bachelor's degree
  • A minimum of three years of experience in housing, social work, or case management is required.
  • Develop housing plans with assigned clients to address and resolve barriers to stable housing
  • Demonstrate the ability to interact, problem-solve and mediate in a positive and constructive manner, including during emergency and stressful situations.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced work environments, with little supervision. 
  • Ability to develop tangible Housing Plans for homeless clients.
  • Ability to translate federal housing regulations for client and landlord comprehension.
  • Possess proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Outlook
  • Willing to travel between PIHC centers and to housing facilities as needed and directed by Housing Services Program Manager.
  • Connect clients with medical care to address HIV care needs
  • Coordinate supportive services that help clients reach identified goals and achieve self-sufficiency
  • Bilingual in Spanish (oral and written) is preferred.
