Program Specialist Team R
Who are we: The mission of Pomeroy Recreation and Rehabilitation Center is to provide recreational, vocational and educational opportunities for people with disabilities through programs and services that encourage self-expression, promote personal achievement, and lead to greater independence.
What will you do: The Program Specialist assists the Supervisor in providing direct services and supports for individuals with disabilities within the areas, but not limited to, programming; variety of integrated activities such as planning and leading opportunities for growth and development, encourage participation in activities, providing instruction, and carrying out supports related to the physical well being and comfort of persons served. In addition to the above duties, the Program Specialist typically may be assigned to a particular area with responsibility for the oversight and coordination of the activities in that area. This role may include the support and training of staff, interns, and volunteers as assigned.
Overall Duties Include:
-Primary responsibility for daily/weekly/monthly planning of structured activities in assigned areas as required from conception to completion. This includes, but not limited to, scheduling, conducting, overseeing, documenting, and refinement.
-Identify and collaboratively work with Program Leaders and/or other team members in use of community and center resources to enhance individual growth and development in programming for individuals served.
-Responsible for the safety of individuals served including observing and meeting safety requirements in both facility and community-based activities.
-Assist individuals with eating, toileting, personal hygiene, dressing, and other daily living skills as needed.
-Provide physical assistance to persons served including transferring, pushing wheelchairs, loading, and unloading from vehicles, and physical guidance as needed.
-Responsible for planning, facilitating, executing and evaluating social, vocational, recreational, self-help/advocacy and/or developmental activities and skills training through in-center groups, work activities, and community based outings in accordance with the individual’s service plan.
-Assist Services Supervisor with support and training of staff, interns, or volunteers as needed.
Requirements
What do you bring to this position:
-Bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation counseling, vocational rehabilitation, or related field preferred; AA Degree coupled with experience acceptable
-One or more years related experience and/or training providing services working with individuals with disabilities or equivalent combination of education and experience
-Ability to clear Criminal Record background check
-Fully COVID-19 vaccinated including booster and able to submit documentation upon hire
-Ability to work independently on projects with little to no oversight
-Eager to learn and willing to be trained, a jump in and do it type of attitude
-Working effectively with a variety of personalities and to be sensitive to the needs/communication of persons with differing abilities
-Computer skills and knowledge including MS Office, Google, email
-Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments
