Pomona is a member of The Claremont Colleges. POSITION SUMMARY: The Desktop Support Specialist provides technical customer-centric support to faculty, students, and staff. This position installs, configures, troubleshoots, and maintains Apple and Windows computers, projectors, and printers in a networked environment. The Desktop Support Specialist writes documentation, trains end users, and supports instructional and administrative uses of technology. This position also assists with the training and supervising of up to 30 student employees in the Client Services office. Reporting directly to the Service Desk Supervisor, the Desktop Support Specialist works independently and collaboratively to perform the following essential duties and responsibilities: Provide technical support for the College, including but not limited to hardware and software installation and configurations in classrooms and meeting spaces. Assist faculty, staff, and students in standard technology troubleshooting. Install computer software systems as assigned. Test applications following installation to ensure proper operation. Respond to user requests for assistance and troubleshooting. Provide software upgrade support. Assist faculty and staff in the use of College supported software packages. Provide excellent phone and remote support to customers Support essential internet technologies. Resolve common software conflicts, printing, and fundamental networking problems. Assist with the support of mobile and permanent classrooms. Support and operate various computers and peripheral equipment such as printers, projectors, scanners, hardware and software diagnostic tools, and appropriate utilities. Support the maintenance of College-owned computer hardware and software inventory and determine the need for repair or replacement equipment. Support the department in determining the appropriate hardware purchased by academic departments or administrative offices to meet college/department-specified requirements. QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Bachelor’s degree or some college in computers and networking applications and systems is preferred. A minimum of 2 years of experience in hardware/software support, preferably in a mixed platform environment of Windows and Macintosh machines, with two years of increasing responsibility in computer/network hardware/software installation, maintenance, and repair is required. Strong troubleshooting and customer services skills are required and has intermediate knowledge of the use and care of audio-visual equipment. Proficient with Microsoft productivity tools and various desktop application software (MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, multiple web browsers, etc.). Experience with Windows and Macintosh platforms in a networked environment is preferred. Experience in supporting a multi-user computer environment that is detail-oriented is preferred. Experience at an academic institution is preferred. REQUIRED HOURS: The regular hours for this full-time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday, except during the designated summer period when office hours end at 4:30 p.m. Overtime, holiday, weekend, and evening work hours may be required.
