POSITION: Director of Development

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full-time, exempt

HOURS: Salaried position, some weekend & evening work as needed

COMPENSATION: Annual Salary of $60,000-$70,000 plus benefits and PTO

The Police Activities League of SW Washington (PAL of SWWA) is a nonprofit organization that builds positive relationships between law enforcement and youth. We do this through community-based educational and recreational programs. Ultimately, we hope to empower young people to make life enriching choices and decrease local juvenile crime rates.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Development will work closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to create a sustainable revenue model to support the works of PAL of SWWA. They are responsible for broadening, deepening, and strengthening PAL of SWWA’s base of support to maximize the organization’s service to the community. This includes securing approximately $500,000 in annual contributed revenue from individual, corporate, foundation and government sources. Among other duties, the Director of Development will identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors and business sponsors; manage fundraising events; conduct annual giving campaign(s); and support the organization’s equity policy as they seek out funding opportunities.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

The Director of Development will report directly to the Executive Director. 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and execute PAL of SWWA’s annual fundraising plan
  • Secure financial support from individuals, foundations, corporations, and government sources
  • Input data and manage Keela, our donor database
  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors
  • Engage, support, and coordinate with Board of Directors on development efforts
  • Create and execute a strategy for a large, sustained base of annual individual donors
  • Produce fundraising events with support of the PAL of SWWA team and Events Committee
  • Represent PAL of SWWA in the community
  • Developing and tracking proposals and reports for all foundation and corporate fundraising
  • Support grant writing
  • Work with Executive Director on newsletter communications
  • Act as Executive Director back-up on designated administrative functions, including staff supervision
  • Perform related duties as assigned

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

  • A four-year degree is required OR in place of a degree, 5 years of relevant experience
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in nonprofit development with proven track record of consistently reaching fundraising goals through a variety of channels
  • Confidence in soliciting gifts, making appeals, and asking for help
  • High professional and ethical standards
  • Outstanding communication skills, especially written
  • Ability to work on your own
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion within professional practices
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows based computer applications
  • Ability to manage multiple projects
  • Comfortable interacting with a variety of populations
  • Flexible
  • Ability to pass an in depth, police background check conducted by the Vancouver Police Department
