Pay Rate: $62,700.00 - $94,050.00 Test Engineer Status: Salary Department: MEA Test and Validation Position Summary Plug Power is the industry leader in providing hydrogen fuel cell and electrolyzer systems for green hydrogen production, material handling, backup power and on-road applications. The Test Engineer for the Fuel Cell Stack Test Lab oversees the operation and qualification of the fuel cell stack test equipment to produce data which drives engineering decisions. The engineer defines the process for test requests, test execution, and data analysis and leads development of test design and protocols. The engineer understands operation of the equipment and can identify and resolve data integrity issues and hardware issues, with support from our test equipment team. The role works within the MEA engineering organization to ensure that fuel cell test methods and capability are world class and decisions are driven by high quality, impactful data. The successful candidate is self-motivated, flexible, handles multiple assignments, and learns and adapts in our fast-paced organization. Core Duties and Responsibilities Works with all colleagues to ensure a safe work environment by design and by example. Collaborates with a cross-functional team of lab techs, MEA engineering, equipment engineering, calibration and maintenance engineering and product development. Manages the process for requesting and executing stack testing. Oversees qualification of the fuel cell stack test stations in concert with a regular preventative maintenance schedule. Develops data analysis tools and best practices and educates users on how to use these tools and analyze their data to ensure the highest data quality and decision integrity. Strives to continuously learn and understand the underlying reason for testing to produce consistent and meaningful data. Develops and executes testing in support of key MEA development projects and activities, including (but not limited to): performance optimization, durability evaluation, model development, and material integration and qualification. Works closely with the test equipment team on continuous improvement and added functionality to fuel cell stack test equipment, as needed. Supports the development of new test protocols and procedures and oversees change management of the test protocol library. Learns the hardware and software of the test stations to facilitate hands-on equipment troubleshooting and debug. Informs test equipment and maintenance and calibration teams of issues and collaborates on solutions. Trains and mentors test technicians in support of continuous growth and improvement. Represents Plug Power in a professional manner in all interactions; supports the philosophy of the organization to provide high-performing technology to maximize customer satisfaction. Performs all other duties as assigned Exempt employees are expected to work as many hours as is necessary to complete their job responsibilities. This may require they work more than eight hours a day and more than five days or 40 hours per week. Education and Experience B.S. in engineering or related discipline required. Hands on equipment operation, debug, and repair. Experience with basic statistical methods (i.e. DOE, SPC, Gauge R&R). Flexibility to multitask and adjust with shifting priorities while keeping end goals in focus. Dynamic interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences and stakeholders at all levels. Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail. Uncompromising dedication to quality. Teamwork oriented and focused. At least 2 years of experience in related field desired but not required. Certification or M.S. in applied statistics or related discipline desired but not required. Experience working in LabView control environments desired but not required. Prior fuel cell or other electrochemical experience desired but not required. Passionate about making green hydrogen a world-wide reality.
