The Community Organizer conducts grassroots organizing activities that engage supporters and build relationships in the Lowcountry are of South Carolina. They provide key support to PPSAT's political strategy particularly around volunteer activities in targeted political candidate and issue-based campaigns helping to elect champions of sexual and reproductive healthcare.

Who You Are

  • Experienced grassroots organizer, with at least 2 years of paid or unpaid issue based campaign experience in the state of South Carolina, with a strong emphasis on community building and local connections
  • Someone with a passion for, understanding of, and experience in organizing for abortion rights and reproductive freedom
  • At least one year of electoral experience required, with demonstrated ability to meet quantitative and qualitative community organizing goals
  • Experienced with volunteer recruitment, engagement, and recruitment
  • Talented interpersonal communicator, highly skilled in engaging and developing relationships
  • Someone with a deep understanding of intersectionality and cross-cultural mindfulness 
  • Highly skilled with time management and initiative
  • Someone who can work both independently and as part of a team
What You'll Do (but not limited to)
  • Grassroots organizing in Lowcountry SC- including minimum bi-monthly travel to clinics in the SC Lowcountry service area
  • Recruit, train, and mobilize volunteers and community activists 
  • Manage relationships with grassroots volunteers and supporters
  • Execute rapid response events/actions during legislative, electoral, or issue-based campaign peaks
  • Implement grassroots organizing tactics, such as canvassing, voter engagement, phone banking, relational organizing, etc. 
  • Develop connections and foster leadership with local student groups, as well as manage Planned Parenthood Generation Action student organizations
  • Develop relationships within multiple communities and identify needs and opportunities within those communities with local leaders

Schedule & Location:

Monday - Friday, 40 hours/week

Requires occasional night & weekend work

Hybrid Work Style - Candidate must be based in or around Charleston, SC

Regular Travel required throughout assigned area (Lowcountry SC)

Compensation:

PPSAT's compensation philosophy is based on equity and transparency. Each job at PPSAT is assigned to a salary grade built on market data. For an individual coming into PPSAT, we set a pay generally between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary grade and based on candidate qualifications. For this position, the minimum is $23.35 and the midpoint is $27.55 per hour.

This position requires a background check once a job offer is extended to the final candidate.
