Description

Salary: $125K - $135K

Summary

Responsible for affiliate-wide strategic communications, brand management, message development, crisis communications, internal communications, media relations and external communication, marketing strategy development and materials production.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Communications

  • Develop, plan, implement and supervise ongoing strategic communications strategies, policies and procedures to enhance and protect the Federation and affiliate’s brand and profile in our service area and communities
  • Identify external communications opportunities and solutions, and define and execute appropriate strategies and tactics to support them
  • Provide support for CEO, in coordination with Chief Strategy Officer, for speeches, media appearances, statements, emails, presentations, etc.
  • Serve as communications and brand counselor to Senior Leadership Team and affiliate leadership, to ensure messaging consistency with Planned Parenthood brand and mission, and to support PPGC’s goals
  • Provide leadership in articulating and delivering messages, presentations, programming, and materials that exemplify the values, vision and mission of the organization that support PPGC’s goals and mission
  • Serve as primary point of contact with communications staff members at Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA), Planned Parenthood affiliates in Texas, Planned Parenthood Texas Votes (PPTV), and other partner organizations
  • Serve as primary affiliate spokesperson and lead point person on media interactions that help promote and/or advance the organization
  • Lead communications response and message and materials development during crisis situations
  • Support internal communications efforts in coordination with Senior Leadership Team and VP of People Services & Director of Equity & Engagement
  • Oversee training and management of all affiliate spokespersons.
  • Evaluate, prioritize and develop response to media opportunities
  • Develop and/or coordinate preparation of talking points, press statements and releases, speeches, presentations, staff emails and announcements, and other material as needed
  • Actively engage, cultivate and manage relationships with media to ensure accurate coverage surrounding Planned Parenthood services, programs, relevant issues and policies, special events, public announcements, and other projects
  • Interact productively with Board of Directors and committees regarding messaging, communications strategies, and marketing campaigns
  • Identify and develop ideas and opportunities for specific activities that promote awareness of mission and services
  • Maintain information based on facts and issues regarding reproductive health care, current events and public affairs
  • Maintain database and relationships with media, public relations and marketing contacts

Brand Elevation and Reputation Management

  • Serve as primary lead in elevating and protecting the Planned Parenthood brand and messages that exemplify the values, vision and mission of the organization
  • Provide leadership in articulating, delivering, reinforcing and protecting the Planned Parenthood brand and reputation across PPGC’s service area and various stakeholders through PPGC’s managed communication channels, paid and organic marketing, advertising and promotions
  • Oversee development of all affiliate print and digital communications including marketing collateral materials, website and social media
  • Assist and supervise affiliate staff with developing written materials and public remarks to reinforce and protect our brand and manage PPGC’s reputation, as needed
  • Edit, proofread and approve publications, remarks and other materials drafted by affiliate staff prior to external distribution

Marketing Strategy

  • Develop and support annual marketing and advertising budgets and plan implementation, track progress of campaigns and activities to goal
  • Support collaboration between Marketing staff and Patient Care staff to determine needs, identify opportunities, leverage health holidays/observations for service promotion and patient recruitment in all markets within service area.
  • Advise and approve paid advertising and marketing plan and activities across service area
  • Engage and collaborate with outside consultants and resources, as necessary.
  • Support development and approve marketing materials to achieve goals in annual plan, ensuring message and brand consistency

Leadership & Teammate Support

  • Supervise Communications and Marketing team, provide leadership, professional support and development, and annual evaluations
  • Participate as a member of the Senior Leadership Team Plus as needed
  • Participate as a member of Leadership Team and various PPGC teams and task forces as assigned or needed.
  • Oversee the day-to-day activities of the Communications and Marketing department including budgeting, planning and staff development
  • Participate in affiliate strategic and operating, planning, and budgeting processes.
  • Supervise Communications and Marketing compliance with VComply tasks
  • Develop and revise PPGC’s SOPs related to Communications and Marketing responsibilities
  • Ensure timely vendor and corporate credit card expenses and reimbursements
  • Other special projects, as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises the Marketing Manager, Communications Manager, Senior Graphic Designer/CRM Administrator, and Digital Communications Coordinator. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training and supporting employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience

College degree in communications, marketing, or public affairs. Masters degree helpful. Minimum of five years’ experience in public relations, media, communications and/or marketing, preferably in the field of health care.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

  • Familiarity and ability to work with Microsoft Office programs as well as software to facilitate the online marketing and communications work.
