PlanIT Group is Hiring a Network Technician - Long Island, NY Near Long Island, NY

Our client keeps growing and growing as there is a need for a Network Technician to support our client sites in - Manhattan & Long Island, NY and who can perform the following skills. Travel expenses are reimbursed.

• Racking and stacking of network devices 
• Running structured cabling & terminating at patch panel
• Cable patching
• Physical layer troubleshooting
• Equipment disposal activities
• Installing and troubleshooting Cisco and Avaya IP phones 

This position will support facilities management, site security and project engagement with a commitment and desire to satisfy our customer by completing all work at the highest level, always striving for perfection. The candidate must be motivated and self-driven for success.
Position Details

• Long-term contract with possible extension(s) or opportunity of hire
• Standard Hours: Mon-Sat: Hours vary (must be comfortable working dispatch days/evenings/weekends/on call)
• Mobile Worker Supporting Client sites in - Manhattan & Long Island, NY
• Requires a valid driver's license and dependable vehicle

Responsibilities

• The patching cabling between network equipment and customer’s network
• The installation of power cables from equipment to power supply in rack/cabinet/closet
•  The installation, troubleshooting and de-installing of network equipment
  • Install/swap out devices (e.g., phones, computers, cables, boards, edge routers, switches and etc.)
  • Install, troubleshoot, and de-install Network General remote Sniffers
• Complete all hard and complex Move, Add Change (MAC) requests within the defined service levels
• Act as interface between customer’s associates and management
•  Provide hardware break-fix services for network infrastructure
• Perform onsite call-through, data, voice, website, and security testing
• Perform backup testing to ensure all systems are connected to the customer’s network as directed
•  Support carrier testing of circuits
• Assist with facilities efforts
  •  Power and uninterruptable power supply (UPS) restoral
  •  Water problems,
  • Emergency cooling restoration,
  • Fire suppression exercises, restoration, and post-fire events
• Support inventory management activities
  •  Receiving Inventory
  • Tagging of assets
  • Tracking spares (crash kits)
  • Ordering inventory
  • Updating inventory records
  • Prepare and return damaged equipment
• Act as an interface, as needed, between associates at the applicable location and centralized project /operations / MAC management

Requirements

• Must be proficient in utilizing technical tools such as Sniffers, BERT testers, cable testers, and fiber testers.
• Requires experience in working in communications closets
  • Must be able to perform rack and stack activities
  • Must be able to safely lift heavy objects
• Must understand cable patching processes and procedures
• Must be familiar with 66 Block and 110 Block cross connect procedures
• Must have a basic knowledge of data communications networking.
  • Must be able to assist in troubleshooting issues
  • Must understand network terminology
• Must be familiar with IP phone
  • Must be able to program Cisco phones
  • Must be able to install Avaya phones
  • Must be able to troubleshoot Avaya and Cisco phones
• Requires good interpersonal communications skills
  • Must be able to explain technical issues in a way the customer will understand an issue
  • Must be able to interpret a customer’s issue in a way that will allow technician to facilitate a resolution

Experience and Education

• 5 years of experience in data communications
• Must have a basic knowledge of Cisco Phones, switches and routers
• Must have a basic knowledge of local and wide area networking.
• Have previous experience with structured cabling
• High school diploma or equivalent required
