Overview

The Director, Financial Planning & Analysis will be responsible for driving and managing the comprehensive financial planning, forecasting, and analysis, enabling Planet Fitness to align resources with the achievement of strategic goals. The Director, FP&A will be a key contributor to the Finance team in developing accurate forecasts, routine reporting on key financial and operational metrics, and driving strategic decisions through modeling and analysis. In this role, you will help develop business plans, evaluate new initiatives, and maintain long-range financial plans and will be highly visible within the organization and will support strategic decision-making through complex financial analyses.

Responsibilities

• Work cross-functionally with business units (Franchise & Corporate Store Operations, Strategy, Digital, and various HQ teams including HR, IT/IS, Legal, Finance), leading a team that provides financial analysis, forecasting and reporting, capital asset strategy and management, and insights into operational performance to support market planning for both equity and franchisee development.
• Manage and develop a team of Finance Managers and Analysts to achieve excellence in long- and short-term planning and analysis and support the increasingly complex planning functions of Planet Fitness’s rapid growth.
• Lead and oversee annual financial planning effort and quarterly re-forecasts, including analysis of operational and financial drivers of Forecast vs Plan evolution, preparation of various dashboards for management and investor reporting, trend analysis, and ad hoc analysis to support management decision-making initiatives.
• Lead the FP&A team in partnership with Senior Management to develop and refine key assumptions around operational KPIs, P&L and cash flow targets.
• Support annual long-range planning effort, including ad hoc analysis and insights into historical operational and financial performance to guide long-term growth targets.
• Provide leadership and oversight of standard monthly reporting process, including review of executive management packages. Monitor routine departmental reporting (actual vs Plan/Forecast drivers) and drive achievement of accurate and timely financial reporting in collaboration with Accounting management.
• Drive the development and maintenance of methodologies used for organizational reporting, ensuring overall data integrity. Translate data into high-value, actionable insights for senior management team and business partners, developing and refining new analyses in response to business needs and bringing expertise on emerging trends.
• Validate and improve existing metrics and create new resources for data-driven insights. Provide leadership on metric definitions and analytic methodologies to assess key business value drivers.
• Develop finance and business presentations such as Board of Director presentations, Senior Leadership Team presentations and presentations to external constituents, including to Planet Fitness’s business partners and Franchisees.
• Work closely with cross functional partners and franchisees to continuously improve the economic model through financial review and analysis.
• Support WBS debt refinance efforts, annual FDD reporting and other ad hoc business activities (including Corporate Store acquisitions, financial & business system projects).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or related field, required. MBA, preferred
• 10 years of progressive experience in Senior level Financial Planning & Analysis roles
• Advanced knowledge of accounting/financial principles and practices required
• Advanced proficiency in Excel modeling, financial scenario development and a deep understanding of complex financial concepts
• Experience in multi-unit franchise operations, a plus
• Experience with Cognos BI, Cognos TM1, Hyperion Essbase, or comparable experience
• Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office with advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint
• Extremely detail-oriented, efficient, and organized with an exceptional ability to establish priorities and objectives
• Exceptional presentation and communication skills along with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, including executives
• Able to establish and maintain effective, collaborative work relationships with diverse individuals, internally and externally
• Creative, progressive, thought leadership with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization
• Excellent leadership skills including the ability to build teams, motivate, guide, and mentor
