General Summary
Splices, terminates, and maintains cable, including fiber-optic cable. Identifies, counts, and prepares cable for splicing.
Maintains central office cable system and patch panel. Splices cable to protector devices and the main distribution frame at the central office. Splices customer drop cable to the house and central office cable system. Mounts demarcation devices and protectors at customer premises. Transfers service from one cable or terminal to another.

Essential Job Functions

  • Splices fiber cables and cuts terminals for new construction. Maintains and repairs new cable plant copper and fiber optic lines by opening and bonding lines and fibers.
  • Maintains cable system by testing to locate trouble, opening cable to repair or replace defective sections, and closing and sealing cable.
  • Identifies, counts, and prepares for splicing. Adds new lines of service as directed by subscriber.
  • Splices cable to protector devices and central office main distribution frame and splices customer drop cable to the central office cable system.
  • Maintains cable air pressure by ensuring that all splice closures and termination points are airtight and free of moisture.
  • Mounts demarcation devices and protectors at customer premises and attaches individual house or service cable to central office feeder cable.
  • Transfers customers’ service from one cable and/or terminal to another by reworking cut sheets and assigning counts.
  • Must be willing to work overtime and schedule night cuts with the Network department.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and be insurable under RTC’s insurance policy.
  • Required to stay active in company functions and participate in continuing education as required to improve job function.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned by management.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of telecommunication construction and cable installation practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of voice communications and digital technology.
  • Knowledge of company products and services.
  • Knowledge of company policies and procedures.
  • Skill in operating service equipment including splicing materials, pedestals, marking materials, cable reel trailers, and various hand tools and testing equipment.
  • Skill in reading cable schematics, fiber count reports and verification reports.
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner

Note: This job description is flexible and is considered a “living document,” in that it may be modified according to the needs of Pinpoint Holdings, Inc. Modifications will be made through communication and agreement between the employee and the employee’s supervisor/manager.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
