The general role of the Shop Laborer is to provide physical labor and general labor to a wide range of trades through various construction, mechanical and industrial projects. This is considered a semi-skilled position that requires a mechanical knowledge and aptitude, along with a basic knowledge of general construction trades.This position will require a flexible schedule that may include extended hours, weekends, holidays, evenings and possible night shifts. 

The Shop Laborer will work out of the Pillar Shop, located in Grantsville, MD.

Responsibilities

  • Provide physical labor and general labor to construction trades and to various construction, industrial and mechanical projects
  • Assist in a variety of work that may include but not be limited to: assembly, inventory control, concrete, basic welding, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, mechanical, rigging, and general labor
  • Materials handling and storage
  • Load and unload trucks, tools, materials as needed
  • Stage tools and materials and assist skilled workers as required
  • Utilize hand tools and power tools safely and effectively
  • Provide detailed paperwork, and documentation to ensure accurate record keeping, billing and inventory
  • Maintain company tools, equipment and vehicles in a professional and workman-like manner
  • Follow proper safety and incident reporting procedures
  • Work with high pressure cylinders
  • Perform other duties as assigned and assist in other areas of the company as required

Qualifications

  • 1 years of general construction, building or mechanical experience or equivalent technical education and training 
  • Knowledge and experience working with concrete and/or welding preferred but not required
  • Must possess knowledge of materials, equipment and tools used throughout construction trades to include the ability to utilize a measuring tape
  • Willing and able to work a flexible schedule that may include extended hours, weekends, holidays, evenings and possible night shift.
  • Must be dependable; trustworthy; and possess a positive and productive attitude
  • Must be able to work well with co-workers in a team environment
  • Demonstrate a keen awareness of safety and safe practices
  • Willing to travel (travel is minimal)

Working Conditions

  • Walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach and lift; climb ladders and stairs; crawl; kneel
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds unassisted\
  • Must be safety and customer-focused, without exception
  • Required safety equipment: Steel toe and/or metatarsal boots, protective eye wear, gloves, hard hat, and hearing protection

This position requires the completion of a thorough background and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening. In accordance with The Company’s Drug and Alcohol policy, employees are required to participate in random, post-accident and reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing as requested.
