This position is in the office and NOT remote.Why It's a Great Opportunity: 
This is a great entry level career opportunity as a Legal Assistant 1 within the Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Civil Division. Your primary focus will be general clerical support in the field of legal services, assisting the Tort Team with discovery management and document production.

Your Future in this Role:
This position will provide you opportunity to build a solid foundation within a civil law environment. You will learn applicable legal guidelines or regulations, court processes and procedures and office operational procedures. You will develop professional networks and have exposure to attorneys, courts, and agencies as well as the public. Your work will directly impact your community and it offers a great foundation for future positions within the Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
 
Core Daily Responsibilities and Requirements:
In addition to providing legal advice related to labor and personnel law and HR matters, you will represent Pierce County in labor arbitrations and mediations, and hearings before the Public Employment Relations Commission (PERC). This position is not included in the Pierce County Prosecuting Attorneys’ Association.
 
Our work requires a solid understanding of state and federal labor and employment law applicable to public employees, along with:
 
  • Perform non-complex legal support work.
  • Open files
  • Assist Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys.
  • Prepare documents for the court.
  • May perform reception and telephone work, which will require knowledge about office policies, regulations, and procedures.
  • Respond to complaints from the public courteously.
  • Distributes papers to court, jail, police agencies, etc.
  • Operates standard office equipment including such equipment as telephones, copiers, computers, printers, fax machine, typewriter and others.
  • Performs data entry.

  • A minimum of six months of work experience in the legal field as a legal assistant, legal secretary, or related legal staff support function.
  • Other education or experience which clearly indicates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position may substitute for the recruiting requirements.
  • Fluency with the MS Office Suite
  • This position requires working in the office in person five days a week.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Training by an accredited vocational school, college, or university in the field of legal support work or related area.
