CONSTRUCTION PROJECT MANAGER
Pay: $80,000 - $130,000 per year
About the Company
Ruston Paving is a commercial and industrial paving construction contractor with offices in New York, Virginia, and North Carolina. Established in 1943, we are a family-oriented company that has been in business for three generations. Our company is capable of all types of asphalt paving projects ranging from minor repairs to larger projects incorporating asphalt reclamation and recycling, as well as new construction.
General Summary of the Position
Teamwork is a major part of every position at Ruston Paving, so it is important to note that, aside from all other listed responsibilities, you must be willing to assist others and be as productive as possible. The Project Manager is responsible for estimation and management of projects from inception to project close out.
Essential Functions
The following is a list of essential functions for the position. These are responsibilities that an individual must be able to perform with or without reasonable accommodation.
  1. Serves as the primary point of contact for clients, material suppliers, and subcontractors.
  2. Takes the necessary steps to obtain proper documentation for interpretation before preparing proposals and bids.
  3. Oversees the distribution and organization of online RFPs and prospective projects.
  4. Reviews and distributes project documents as needed for soliciting pricing for proposals and/or bids.
  5. Preparing quantity take-offs and the review of project specifications.
  6. Analyzes and compiles field data to assist in the design and development of the scope of work.
  7. Prepares CADD drawings that assist with communicating the scope of work.
  8. Conducts cost analysis, estimates expected costs, and reports on such job cost and crew activity as needed throughout the life of the project.
  9. Conducts risk assessments, reports identified risks, and provides recommendations for mitigation of risk.
  10. Participates in daily scheduling meetings and provides input on equipment moves and staffing needs for the days ahead in coordination with the Field Operations Manager and Regional/Division Manager(s).
  11. Resolves conflicts with staff, customers, suppliers, subcontractors, and other parties in a timely manner.
  12. Is accountable for the profitable, safe, and timely execution of all projects, while maintaining the quality workmanship provided by the crews.
  13. Maintains positive relationships with current, past, and future customers and employees.
  14. Performs administrative duties, such as managing calendars, scheduling meetings, and answering calls and inquiries.
  15. Ensures that safety protocols are followed, PPE is utilized, and safe tools and equipment are used consistently with company and industry standards, as well as per the agreement with the customer for the project at hand.
  16. Promotes a culture of safety by taking part in regular safety meetings to ensure that the crews understand expectations and have the proper PPE and equipment for the job.
  17. Perform all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards as determined by law, jobsite requirements, and company policies.
  18. All other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
A good deal of responsibility falls on the Project Manager to ensure that projects are running smoothly and safely. What we look for in a good candidate include:

  8. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills demonstrated by expressing a genuine interest in the thoughts, opinions, and needs of coworkers and customers.
  9. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  10. Ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and to delegate them when appropriate.
  11. Strong analytical and problem solving skills demonstrated by the ability to deal with situations deviating from standardized and/or planned situations or procedures.
  12. Strong computer skills, including being proficient in Microsoft Office and related software.
Education and Experience
A successful Project Manager will have diverse educational qualifications and technical skills to deliver on the job. These include:
  1. Bachelor of Science degree in a construction-related discipline is preferred.
  2. Minimum of five years of experience estimating, leading or managing construction projects is required.
  3. Experience in the preparation of estimates involving labor, materials, and equipment is a plus.
  4. CADD experience preferred, but not required.
  5. Experience managing multiple projects at once with a range of sizes and requirements is required.
  6. Experience in effectively and timely resolution of contract disputes and managing changes.
  7. Fluent in English. Ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus.
  8. Possession of a valid driver's license and clean driving record is required.

  4. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  5. Must be able to quickly move arms and legs.
  6. Excellent stamina is required.
