Duties
We are looking for a Underwriting Manager to join our team
Summary -
Manages a team of underwriting staff members, including technical support staff to ensure timely processing, quoting and issuance of new and/or renewal business, and other functions to support the underwriting team work flow process.
A typical day will include the following:
Supervises and assists a small staff in providing routine organizational underwriting and rating services to meet underwriting performance and service goals.
Manage a team of underwriting staff members, including technical and/or support staff, to ensure timely processing, quoting and issuance of new and/or renewal business, and other functions to support the underwriting team work flow process.
Oversees and/or assists in training new employees, participates in the recruitment process and recommends and supports individual development plans of assigned underwriting team.
Oversees day-to-day activities and operations of the underwriting group with authority for routine personnel actions and performance management responsibilities. Participates in the performance review process and evaluates performance of team members in conjunction with Underwriting Manager or AVP.
Ensures compliance with underwriting processes, guidelines, policies, standards and supervisory practices as well as laws and regulations governing the insurance industry through daily interaction and scheduled team meetings.
Communicates operational issues to underwriting team and/or department management and monitors achievement of team goals and inititiatives in response to these issues.
Recommends possible improvements to underwriting policies, processes, guidelines and practices.
Acts as liaison in solving processing and compliance issues involving other departments (example IT, Compliance).
Also acts as primary underwriter for an assigned territory and/or book of business depending on workflow needs.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent is strongly Preferred
10 years of commercial package underwriting experience
Two to four years of supervisory experience preferred
