Communication Specialist 

The Communications Specialist is responsible for communicating information throughout PLA’s internal network and with external stakeholders. The Communications Specialist will work in partnership with school principals across PLA’s network to create interactive newsletters, manage various digital platforms, and design and create content that supports the success of our staff.

Essential Job Tasks:

  • Draft monthly internal and external newsletter that communicates important news, events, and messages to the entire internal and external network
  • Draft press releases in collaboration with the Communications Director to help leverage press relationships to achieve placements, inform community members, and maximize partnerships
  • Manage the Smore platform, including adding new users, working with Principals on their Smore newsletter when needed, troubleshooting and communicating with Smore representatives if troubleshooting issues arise
  • Design print and digital materials, including flyers, social media graphics, and ads
  •  Assist with publishing digital marketing content online, monitoring social media and Google Analytics, and measuring digital traffic
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field; required
  • 2-4 years experience in Communications, Marketing, or related fields
  • Ability to interact with colleagues at all levels and functions across the organization
  • Experience in writing and distributing press releases
  • Experience creating and producing e-newsletters using Mailchimp, Constant Contact, Smore, Hubspot, or any other e-newsletter applications
  • Experience in writing and editing marketing and communications content with an attention to detail
  • Experience using design software applications (ex: Poster My Wall, Canva, Adobe, Visme, etc)
  • Website management experience is a plus
