The “Senior Software Engineer” collaborates with onshore/offshore teams and is responsible for delivery of a common technical and architectural solution for their assigned portfolio under development. They participate in defining and delivering the application systems, subsystems, and interfaces; validate technology assumptions; and evaluate alternatives. The individual has advanced full stack web developer skills, fluency in a variety of programming languages, databases, and back-/front-end programming to actively execute development and maintenance of applications and microservices supporting online and digital initiatives. They align solutions, releases, and sprints consistent with program and project delivery cadence and are responsible for ensuring practical and implementable alignment with the organization and enterprise technological and architectural vision.

This role understands the solution context and actively collaborate with the teams, customers, and suppliers to ensure alignment. They are trained and practiced in both traditional and agile delivery models, understand and are able to manage the complexities of large-scale solution development. They also work closely with other offshore and onsite development and QA resources to develop and deliver a high quality product.

  • This position will work closely with the Scrum masters, Architects, QA, Dev/Ops, as well as multiple organizations within the company
  • Responsible for assigned delivery activities across the scrum team and are the onshore escalation point for all application support and development issues specific to their assigned domain and projects
  • Partner with the onshore Product Manager to ensure customer requirements are being communicated to the scrum team and teams are collaborating successfully
  • Responsible for delivering high-quality products on time, on target, and within budget
  • Collaborate with DevOps team to align with CI/CD requirements for assigned projects
  • Support QA Team to ensure project quality and efficient completion of sprint commitments
  • Provide guidance to development team throughout all phases of scrum (backlog grooming, sprint planning, estimation/story pointing and retro/demo)
  • Recommend resource assignments on projects across a multi-faceted team on multiple products and platforms
  • Provide input into architecting the hardware environment, services platform, application platform, and database. Work with Dev/Ops on managing the lower environments (dev, qa, uat, build servers, deployment, etc.)
  • Participate in strategic planning initiatives for products and services, product road mapping, and tactical discussions.
  • Work with architects and management to manage risk identification and risk mitigation strategies associated with the architecture. Help ensure the architecture is sustainable, deployable, and secure
  • Work with IT security to regularly scan applications for vulnerabilities and remediate in a timely fashion
  • Create and enforce technical, coding standards, tools, platforms, and approaches
  • Collaborate with Delivery Team and provide leadership on IT methodology and Agile processes
  • Be available after hours and weekends for incident management, releases and ensuring active participation and problem resolution
  • Apply and execute microservice, API and integration development best practices while adhering to team and industry coding standards, and corporate policies
  • Analyze and support development of specifications, considering feasibility, cost and time required, compatibility with current system, and computer capabilities required for services
  • Support the creation and curation of documentation and repositories to describe program development, logic, coding, and versioning, including standards for PCI and SOX compliance

Required Qualifications

  • 5 years delivering robust software and solutions for enterprise commerce applications
  • 5 years working with Node.js, Node.js web frameworks such as React, Next.js, and open-source relational database systems such as MySQL, PostgreSQL
  • 5 Years of experience supporting applications in a production environment
  • 2 Years of experience working with offshore technology vendors
  • 2 Years of experience delivering technical projects using Agile Scrum
  • Experience working in a Linux environment
  • Advanced knowledge of microservices and Service Oriented Architecture

Additional Qualification

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment; excellent multi-tasking skills, focusing on multiple initiatives at one time in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to estimate work efforts with a high degree of accuracy
  • Proven track record of delivering quality, completed deliverables with well-factored, maintainable code
  • Effective management of software development teams and practices
  • Ability to translate complex system requirements, goals, and directives into well-structured software components, assist the team with agile stories and tasks, pre-requisites, order of execution, etc
  • Excellent grasp of the retail landscape, trends, and emerging technologies
  • Experience with VCS (git, hg or svn)
  • Advanced knowledge of javascript, Node.js, TypeScript
  • Understanding and ability to execute software development supporting web applications
  • Experience with search tools such as Solr and Elasticsearch
  • Advanced knowledge of Event-based Architecture
  • Advanced knowledge of NoSQL databases
  • Experience building REST-based web services using JSON
  • Knowledge and experience with development operations (configuration and installation of apache, nginx, memchached, varnish, etc.)
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with AWS (EC2, Lambda, RDS, Fargate)
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with containerization such as Docker, Kubernetes
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with TailwindCSS
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with React, React Native
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with Serverless framework
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with CICD
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum and SAFE development methodologies
  • Successful working experience with remote/on-Prem teams, including On-/off-/near-shore, FTE/Contract/Vendor resources
  • Experience delivering software while coordinating with Solution and Domain Architects and cross-domain Tech Leads
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment of changing priorities that require frequent re-balancing and re-factoring
  • Highly skilled at troubleshooting and debugging issues
