Overview

The Safety Manager will direct, administer, and coordinate the activities of the organization in support of policies, goals, and objectives established by the HR Manager. This position will develop a safety conscious culture by providing workforce education and will investigate, analyze, and report on any accidents or unsafe events and suggest remedial and preventative actions. This position will also grow into having the responsibility for safety at multiple sites.

Responsibilities/Qualifications

Safety Manager key responsibilities include:

• Conducting safety observations and providing feedback for safe and unsafe acts.
• Handling incidents and injuries and coordinating transitional duty for injured team members.
• Partnering in Worker’s Compensation Claims.
• Partnering in Safety development of all team members including certifications, and training refreshers.
• Conducting regular safety audits, safety trainings and inspections.
• Developing and administering risk management programs, including OSHA and local emergency planning.
• Maintaining OSHA and Worker’s Compensation recordkeeping.
• Advising management, operations and project/maintenance teams as required to assure compliance with federal, state, local and corporate rules and regulations pertaining to team member health and safety.
• Identifying and analyzing applicable safety standards and precautions.
• Auditing facility practices and records periodically to ensure compliance with company programs and state/federal occupational safety/health regulations.
• Ensuring compliance with Hazards Communication Program, Emergency Action Plan, Fire Prevention Plan, and any other programs required by OSHA and PSP.
• Checking compliance of safety equipment usage and safety policies application.
• Reporting and reviewing accidents/incidents/near miss investigations to determine the root cause and make recommendations for action plan to minimize or eliminate future safety risks.
• Developing and/or administering emergency actions plans (fire, tornado) and coordinates drills, inspections, and testing on emergency equipment.
• Training leadership on first aid, CPR and blood cleanup and disposal methods.
• Assessing ergonomics of all job functions for proper lifting and handling practices.
• Supervising the development and implementation of safety programs, guide materials, safety training manuals/publications and provides safety-related training to improve team member knowledge and operating procedures.

Safety Manager requirements include:

• Associate Degree or equivalent in an occupational safety subject such as Safety Management, Occupational Safety, or Industrial Hygiene.
• 3 years of experience in the safety field.
• OSHA and CPR certifications.
• Must have the ability to manage time effectively.
• Proficient using windows-based software including Word and Excel.
• Knowledge of principles and practices of the Supply Chain and Logistics Industry.
• Ability to speak in front of a group and teach various subject matters.
