Pet Food Express is seeking a Senior Accountant with a proven track record of experience to support our growing business. Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the Senior Accountant is an integral contributor to the finance and business operations of the company and has a broad range of responsibilities, including financial reporting, account reconciliation and analysis, and supporting the financial statement close process where adherence to internal controls, timeliness and accuracy are crucial. This position requires in-depth knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, proficiency in accounting systems, analytical thinking and the ability to work effectively with cross functional partners. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, effective communicator, has great attention to detail and can adapt to change and shift priorities quickly while maintaining organization and accuracy.

What you'll do:

• Complete month-end close assigned, including preparation of journal entries, balance sheet and income statement account reconciliations and analysis for complex accounts
• Assist with analyzing balance sheet and income statement accounts on a monthly basis and report on variances
• Reconcile asset and liability account balances, maintaining general ledger and executing assigned month-end close procedures
• Assist with review of calculation and analysis of prepaid and accrued expenses
• Review accounting documents to ensure accuracy of information and correct entries
• Assist in documentation and monitoring of internal controls
• Assist management with ad hoc information gathering, analysis, reporting and other projects as needed

What you'll bring:

• 3-5 years of experience in a Senior Accountant or similar level role. Experience in a similar role with a multi-unit retailer strongly preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance / Accounting
• General ledger accounting, financial close, reporting and audit experience
• Clear and effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills; able to adapt for audience
• Excellent organization, attention to detail, and accuracy; able to manage and prioritize detailed work/projects with competing deadlines and instinctually follow-up
• Effective relationship and teambuilding skills; able to establish and maintain cooperative, mutually respectful working relationships
• Ability to remain calm and focused pressure situations, effectively cope with change, operate with a sense of urgency and make sound decisions
• Ongoing commitment to continuous learning and development, use feedback to improve performance, seek and acquire new skills to improve effectiveness
• Demonstrated critical, analytical and innovative thinking and problem-solving skills
• Proactive and self-motivated, able to work independently with minimal guidance and as part of a team in a distributed work environment
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, email and business communication applications (Slack, Teams, Zoom) required
• Advanced proficiency with Excel including the development of tables, spread sheets, formulas, custom reporting, interfaces, and data transfer
• CPA and public accounting experience including familiarity with the quarter-end close process is a plus
