Peraton is Hiring a Technician II - Machinist Near Topeka, KS

Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Technician II – Machinist works at the United States Postal Service (USPS) Central Repair Facility (CRF) in Topeka, KS. The CRF is a depot repair facility for USPS mail processing, delivery, and bulk mail systems repairable parts. Examples: repairing printed circuit boards, electrical, electronic, mechanical and electro-mechanical assemblies to component level. The CRF provides depot level maintenance for essential automation, mechanization, retail and bulk mail processing systems used in all mail processing and retail installations. 

Our Machinist applies comprehensive knowledge of metal fabrication to plan, perform, program and operate complex fabrication equipment. 

Responsibilities:

  • Fabricate, test, analyze, and adjust precision parts using blueprints, sketches, hand tools, metal working machines, measuring, and testing equipment
  • Apply comprehensive technical knowledge to solve complex problems in various types of equipment 
  • Maintain and operate metal working machines such as CNC equipment, bench lathe, milling machine, and drill press to fabricate components, housings, fittings, jigs and fixtures, and verifies dimensions using micrometers and calipers 
  • Specialize in programming and operating high-end metal working machinery such as CNC lathe, CNC milling centers, CNC press brake, CNC Laser, surface grinders and waterjet used in the machining and fabricating of metal or nonmetallic parts 
  • Determine proper feeds, speeds, tooling, and operation sequence or selects those prescribed in drawings, blueprints, or layouts
  • Work involves fitting and assembling parts to prescribed tolerances and allowances 
  • Perform other related tasks, as required.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent with two years related experience 
  • Formal fabrication training from an accredited program or equivalent military training, or a minimum of two years verifiable work history experience in fabrication may be used in lieu of education
  • Hands on Computer Numerical Control (CNC) training or experience 
  • Ability to read schematics and blueprints 
  • Program and operate complex machining operations using CNC equipment 
  • Demonstrate a high degree of proficiency in using precision measuring equipment 
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify and analyze metal alloys 
  • Sensitive security clearance required to start 

Physical Requirements:

  • Very heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects 
  • Physical activity may include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motion
  • Have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as viewing a computer terminal
  • Visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection) 
  • Subject to noise and hazards including a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, and electrical current 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with SolidEdge or AutoCad 
  • Experience with Mazatrol or Hurco WinMax Software 
  • Experience with CNC Laser or CNC Press Brake 
  • Experience with 3D printing (additive manufacturing)
