People Community Clinic is Hiring a Certified Professional Coder Near Austin, TX

Overview

The Certified Professional Coder helps ensure People's Community Clinic’s financial stability by helping assure that the clinic receives maximum and appropriate reimbursements and conforms to all applicable guidelines and regulations for billing and coding.

This position's starting rate is between $23-$27 hourly.

100% remote, but may require to come in occasionally. 

Responsibilities

  • Accept, verify and audit charges to ensure coding accuracy.
  • Conduct chart audits for physician documentation requirements & internal coding; provide education as appropriate.
  • Responsible for abstracting clinical information from documentation and assign the correct Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and International Classification of Disease, Clinical Modification (ICD-CM) codes.
  • Query providers when code assignments are not straightforward or documentation in the record is inadequate or unclear for coding purposes.
  • Reconcile coding work log tasks; determine the rationale of payer specific rejections and denials by correcting inaccurate charges.
  • Review reports on a daily/weekly basis for claims coding accuracy and the timely filing (or re-filing) of claims. This includes, but is not limited to: unbilled encounters, work log tasks, and EHR tasking
  • Communicates with providers for missing documentation elements and offers guidance and education.
  • Works collaboratively with the revenue cycle team and offer insight to the Revenue Cycle Director regarding coding and billing trends.
  • Identify opportunities for training/education, which may be appropriate for Provider and support staff.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflow, work processes, and work cooperatively to implement these and other quality improvements.
  • Maintain acceptable productivity/quality rates as defined by Revenue Cycle Team.
  • Maintain knowledge of and comply with coding guidelines and specific payer reimbursement and reporting requirements.
  • Adhere to HIPAA guidelines

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma/GED required. College degree in a related field preferred.

Experience:

  • 1 to 3 years’ experience working as a Certified Professional Coder
  • Working knowledge of applicable rules and regulations in CPT, ICD-10 coding, and medical terminology.
  • Ability to interpret health record documentation to identify procedures and services for accurate code assignment.
  • Demonstrate competency of the use of computer applications, group software and Correct Coding Initiatives (CCI) edits.
  • OB/GYN inpatient and outpatient clinic coding preferred.
  • FQHC experience preferred.
  • A general understanding of insurance plans and programs (e.g., Medicare, Medicaid, HMO, MCO, etc.)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Intermediate understanding of Level 1 and 2 Modifiers
  • Ability to interact successfully with people from a variety of backgrounds and abilities.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Excel and other spreadsheet applications
  • Working knowledge of electronic medical records and practice management systems.
  • Ability to multi-task in a high change environment
  • Ability to read and interpret insurance explanation of benefits

Certificate/License:  Requires CPC (Certified Professional Coder) certification in an active status with the American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC).
