Description

A Licensed Vocational Nurse assists with patient care and performs Incidental Medical Services, as well as leadership responsibilities. This is a safety-sensitive position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assess client current health condition and identify health problems and/or needs
  • Perform physical assessment including vital signs of clients in detoxification
  • Perform Incidental Medical Services
  • Monitor client detoxification level using the Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment (CIWA) scale
  • Perform instant/rapid read alcohol and drug screens
  • Complete documentation in the client chart in a thorough, timely, legible, and accurate manner
  • Assess client for medication side effects, including adverse drug reactions
  • Assess client barriers to learning
  • Establish rapport with clients and other caregivers
  • Assess client throughout their stay to determine their response to care and significant changes in the clients condition
  • Identify client level of honesty and self-motivation
  • Report incidents of suspected/known abuse/neglect to the Program Director and comply with all mandatory reporting laws
  • Carry out care for client safely and effectively in accordance with the client's physician
  • Ensure all medications are locked safely and retrieved for self-administration by client
  • Observe and monitor self-administration of medication by clients
  • Coordinate nutritional screenings to determine client's nutritional needs and to identify clients at risk
  • Provide safe and effective care for clients identified to be at risk of injury to self or others
  • Interact with clients in accordance with the goals and interventions outlined in their respective treatment plans and specific needs
  • Interact appropriately with clients at all times
  • Communicate effectively with outside physicians and other appropriate parties in order to plan, deliver, and evaluate care
  • Ensure residents compliance with facility rules and guidelines
  • Therapeutically confront clients and their family members as indicated

Qualifications


Qualification Guidelines:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of chemical dependency and psychological disorders
  • Knowledge of detoxification protocols and related care
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly skilled in case management, time management, and crisis intervention
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Strong computer skills including experience with electronic medical records systems and Outlook
  • Must be flexible in work hours in order to meet facility needs
  • Must maintain self-control in volatile or hostile situations, such as when verbally or physically confronted; must be able to set therapeutic limits and maintain therapeutic distance with clients and maintain therapeutic boundaries with clients during treatment and after discharge

Education / Experience / License:

  • Current, valid License in Vocational Nursing in good standing with the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications
  • Associate of Science in Nursing or LVN Nursing Certificate from an accredited program
  • Two years of relevant experience in a medical, mental health care, or substance abuse treatment facility preferred
  • Current, valid California Driver License with good driving record (as determined by the Company) required

Physical Demands:

  • Stand and walk for long periods of time throughout facility while carrying and using electronic devices and equipment
  • Sit for periods of time
  • Bend, twist, reach frequently
  • Lift up to 20 lbs. occasionally
  • Ability to work using a computer for extended periods of time
  • Ability to recognize faces
  • Ability to distinguish colors as necessary
  • Ability to hear sufficiently and speak clearly on the phone, in person, and in the environment, identify and distinguish sounds associated with the workplace
  • Ability to communicate with others by telephone, email, and personal interaction
  • Ability to see adequately to read computer screens and written documents necessary to the position

Work Environment:

  • Fast paced medical environment with moderate noise level
  • Residential environment with moderate noise level
  • Exposure to blood-borne pathogens and hazardous waste, such as pharmaceuticals, solvents, chemicals, and cleaning solutions

Other Requirements:

  • Travel between company locations in Los Angeles and Ventura counties is required as company needs dictate.
  • This position requires occasional driving as duties dictate, which may include transporting clients.
  • Must satisfy post-offer, pre-employment conditions such as tuberculosis screening (annually thereafter), background check (including criminal and driving record check), drug screening, reference check. Ongoing monitoring and screenings during employment in accordance with law and company policy.
