Elgin Community College is Hiring a Dean of Math, Science & Engineering Near Elgin, IL

Work Schedule:

FT Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes days/evenings/weekends as needed by the department.

Rate of Pay:

This position is a grade 19 with a minimum of $104,850 and a mid-point of $139,800. Salary offer will be commensurate with the education/experience, in alignment with the College's compensation philosophy, and the current CBA, if applicable.

Job Summary:

An employee in this classification is responsible for performing work of considerable difficulty by providing academic and administrative leadership for the Division of Math, Science, and Engineering. This includes developing and managing the divisional budget, equipment and other purchasing decisions on behalf of the division, hiring and evaluating full-time faculty, part-time faculty, support staff, and administrative staff, development and implementation of new programs and curriculum, ensuring curriculum currency, regular assessment of student learning, strategic planning, program evaluation, and management of facilities. Work involves maintaining relationships with president, vice presidents, other deans, board members, the foundation board, program advisory committees, and partners in the business industry, and other educational institutions. General direction is received from the Vice President of Teaching, Learning, and Student Development.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :

  1. Master's degree, preferably in a field represented within the division.
  2. Teaching experience in higher education Minimum 2 years administrative experience at the associate dean or dean level or equivalent.
  3. Familiarity with the Illinois Community College Board or equivalent agency.
  4. Knowledge of the comprehensive mission of the community college.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to ensuring an equitable and inclusive working and learning environment.
  6. Ability to work collaboratively and build teams with administrators, faculty, and staff.
  7. Extensive experience developing and managing a budget.
  8. Ability to build external partnerships.
  9. Proven skills in thinking strategically, developing a vision and implementing its details.
  10. Effective written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills; successful grant writing experience preferred.
  11. Proven success in facilities management and planning.
  12. Demonstrated respect for the teaching learning and evaluation processes.
  13. Strong understanding of student learning and assessment processes.
  14. Demonstrated success serving as an advocate for department and faculty in a large organization.

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. Doctorate degree.
  2. Previous experience teaching within one of the disciplines represented within the division.
  3. Community college teaching experience.
  4. Experience in an educational collective bargaining environment.
  5. Budget management.

Essential Duties:

  1. Develop and implement academic plan for the division that aligns with the college's Strategic Plan and established goals.
  2. Develop, promote and deliver programs, supports, and services to enhance student success.
  3. Hire, supervise, evaluate and support the division's administrative staff, support staff, as well as full- and part-time faculty.
  4. Develop and foster partnerships with local, state, regional, and national agencies, community partnerships and educational alliances.
  5. Provide academic, administrative, and institutional leadership within the college and division.
  6. Direct and oversee division operations, including budget planning and management, facilities management, student success and enrollment data analyses, grant writing and implementation, class schedules, and faculty load and contracts.
  7. Administration of Collective Bargaining agreements.
  8. Address personnel and student issues through problem-solving and conflict resolution. Other duties as assigned.
