General Statement of Duties

This exempt position, under general supervision, is responsible for the maintenance, operation, and planning of the enterprise technical systems including, but not limited to network servers, data storage services, network operating systems, enterprise imaging, email system, data backup recovery systems, and VoIP system. Executes a backup and recovery process for all data systems. Escalation point for desktop and workstation support, PC/Tablet hardware and software troubleshooting, hardware/software installation, remote maintenance tools, third level technical support. May include low-to-mid level network and application administration functions. Performs a variety of computer systems administration and support tasks, including analyzing, constructing, documenting, testing, maintaining, troubleshooting and supporting of server and storage hardware, operating systems, software applications, peripherals, and communication devices for the entire District. Performs a variety of project tasks and requires good communications skills with the ability to work with users diplomatically and skillfully.

Supervision Received

Works under the direct supervision of the Information Technologies Supervisor and under general direction of the Information Technologies Manager.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintaining the day-to-day operations of servers, storage, and associated operating systems. This includes the application of updates, patches and hot-fixes to various systems throughout the District.
  • Monitors backup processes and systems, regularly tests granular level data restores and reports anomalies to supervisor.
  • Monitors and maintains the District’s virtual environments.
  • Monitors Endpoint Protection suite, takes action to mitigate anomalies and notifies supervisor.
  • Performs regular clean-up and maintenance of Active Directory computers, users and Group Policy Objects.
  • Maintains servers, storage, and backup infrastructure and makes recommendations for upgrades or replacements to supervisor.
  • Performs maintenance and management of VOIP Telephone System including server-side setup and end device deployment
  • Documents hardware and software inventory for appropriate licensing compliance.
  • Creates and maintains project work plans.
  • Attends technical and safety training courses and seminars as required.
  • Routinely performs physical cleanup and housekeeping of work areas and equipment and buildings using standard cleaning equipment and materials.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong working knowledge including, but not limited to Windows Professional, Windows Server and Linux operating systems. Solid working knowledge of Active Directory, Microsoft Office 365, Adobe Acrobat, Intel, HP, IBM, Veeam, Nutanix, VMware, Exagrid, Microsoft Intune, .
  • Expert knowledge of virtualized environments including servers, storage and hyper-converged infrastructure.
  • Strong troubleshooting, repair and maintenance skills for host hardware, software and peripherals. Installing and configuring application software and operating systems.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Azure AD, and Microsoft 365 environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of electronic mailing systems, SMTP and a Hybrid Microsoft Exchange environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of TCP/IP networking including routing, VLAN, VPN and security in a segmented LAN/WAN environment.
  • Basic knowledge of safety procedures and use of personal protective equipment and ability to apply safety principles on all job tasks. Ability to anticipate unsafe circumstances; act accordingly to prevent accidents, and promptly report accidents and hazardous conditions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, organize activities in order to complete tasks in accordance with priorities, address multiple demands and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety guidelines, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and technical documents.
  • Ability to work independently with broad direction and limited supervision. Ability to work effectively with supervisors, co-workers, contractors, and deal tactfully with the public.
  • Design, installation, and maintenance of enterprise distributed client server and desktop computer systems.
  • Network security policies, techniques, and procedures.

Qualifications / Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science / Information Technology or certified systems administration or equivalent job related education, certifications and experience is required.
  • Requires five years’ experience with technical support, installation, configuration, management and maintenance of networked workstations and servers in an enterprise environment.
  • Additional education and professional certifications may be required.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and a motor vehicle record within the acceptable or no less than borderline rating according to the District’s insurance company.

Working Conditions / Physical Activities

  • Normal work - week is Monday through Friday, up to 8 hours per day. Due to the nature of this job, work hours may sometimes need to be adjusted to accommodate working on systems outside of normal user times.
  • Works in a wastewater plant where elevated levels of noise, irritants, dust, dirt, bacteria, hazardous chemicals/air/materials and fumes are always present. May come into contact with raw wastewater. The Hepatitis B vaccine is strongly recommended and is offered at no cost by the District.
  • Work may take place outside in all weather conditions. May be exposed to risks typically associated with working around water, wastewater, chemicals, electricity and other man-made and natural hazards.
  • Performs moderate physical labor requiring the ability to lift and handle objects up to 50 pounds occasionally and/or 20 pounds frequently.
  • Full range of body movements including stooping, twisting, kneeling, bending, leaning, climbing, stretching and working in awkward positions.
  • Vision is needed for reading, recording and interpreting information, frequent hand/eye coordination for operation of computer keyboard, and operating a motor vehicle; speech and hearing are used to communicate with others over the phone and in person.

Compensations/Benefits


The hiring range for this position is $80,720 - $100,900 per year.
